Slip or trip?

Arthur Volupides, the husband of Queenie Volupides, was murdered by his wife, Queenie, that night or early the next morning. The reasons for this claim are many, as all of the evidence is pointing towards a very guilty Ms. Volupides. For this reason, I don’t believe that the wife is telling the truth.
As the testimony goes, Mr. Arthur Volupides and his wife, Queenie Volupides, had gotten into an argument that night, just as Mrs. Volupides was leaving to go to a country club where a party was being held. After having a few drinks, Queenie returned home shortly before one o’clock in the morning. She invited her friends to come over for one last drink, but returned ten minutes before they arrived at her house. When they showed up, Queenie explained that
Arthur had fallen down the stairs and died, with his glass still in his hand. The autopsy shows that Arthur died by a head wound and was drunk.
There are many aspects of this story that simply don’t match the picture. To begin with, let’s look at how she answered the door. She exclaimed, “Something terrible has happened. Oh my God-what should I do”. This sounds too scripted to be a real reaction, especially when she didn’t shed a tear the whole time. As a rule, when your husband or a loved one dies, you call the cops immediately and you’re going to be in a very emotional state. Queenie didn’t show signs of either of those two things, as the cops would have shown up much faster than the friends, ten minutes later.
Also, Ms. Volupides said that Arthur still had the glass in his hand. However, she also stated that he fell down the stairs. Add those two statements to the fact that Arthur was hit on

the head hard enough to cause death, and we find this claim a bit fallible. As a rule, when a person is knocked unconscious, their whole body goes limp, and they wouldn’t be able to hold on to a glass, especially not when falling down a flight of stairs. Albeit, perhaps he did fall down the stairs. There is still a problem that arises with this. First of all, anyone who is falling, be it down stairs or just falling in general, will tend to grab on to anything in reach in order to stay stable. There are, according to the picture, three very large items along with a handrail that
Arthur could have and would have grabbed onto in the case of a fall, and none of those items are disturbed whatsoever. The second, and most compelling, part of this claim is the way
Arthur seems to have landed according to the picture: on his back, face up, with his feet pointed towards to the top of the stairs. As a rule, when a person falls down or even up a flight of stairs, they will land on their stomach or side with their face down and their feet pointed towards the ground. Along with this false claim arises the clothes and hair which do not seem to be ruffled or wrinkled in the least, though this had most definitely occurred in the case of a fall down a flight of stairs, as well as his robe being tossed open, which it is not. Finally, there is a rug at the bottom of the stairs, which Arthur seems to have collided with. The rug is unmoved and is not wrinkled either.
We also see in the picture a pan on the stove cooking a meal. For starters, it is one o’clock in the morning, and her friends were invited for a drink, not a meal. There is no reason for a pan to be on a stove at that time.
From what I gathered, Queenie got home, drunk, at around 12:30 in the morning, and found her husband drunk on the couch. Arthur was probably drinking because of the fight he

had with his wife earlier. Both the fight, the suit he was wearing, and the fact that he and the wife were drunk, led the wife (with poor decision making skills and critical thinking) to believe that Arthur had gone out that night with another woman. This angered Queenie beyond her breaking point, and she snapped, hitting Arthur in the back of the head with a pan. Afterwards, when she realized he was dead, she put the pan on the stove to burn whatever hair or blood was on it, as cleaning it would take too long, to destroy the evidence. Panicking to come up with an explanation to her friends who were about to be there, she drug him by his feet to the foot of the stairs, tried to take him up the stairs so her friends wouldn’t see him, but realized she wasn’t strong enough, as she is only 110 pounds and 5 ½ feet tall, so she left him as the picture shows, put and empty glass in his hand, and made up a story about how he fell down the stairs.…...

Management Plan Slips, Trips and Falls

...Management Plan Slips Trips and Falls The simplest way of preventing slips, trips and falls in the workplace is to develop a risk management plan which identifies, assesses and controls and monitors safety hazards and risks. Richards Transport provides the following assessment for our warehouse. The steps are; 1. Identify hazards Identifying hazards is the first step to determine exactly where slips, trips and falls can occur. This is done by consulting workers and supervisors, inspecting the premises, and reviewing incident and injury reports. 2. Assess the Risk Next step is to assess the slip or trip risk. Usually it is a combination of factors that create the risk. By using the Slips, Trips and Falls Risk Management Tool this can be done. Each section helps to determine on this chart the level of risk and possible controls of that risk. 3. Fix the problem We then need to look at the assessed risks and decide what needs to be done to eliminate or reduce the risks. There are six types of control strategies to eliminate or reduce these risks and listed below in order of effectiveness. Hierarchy of controls | Examples | Eliminate the Hazard | Remove slip and trip hazards at the design stage such as eliminating changes in floor levels; installing more power outlets through the floor and ceiling to avoid trailing cords | Substitution | Resurface floors | Isolation | Limit access to high risk areas | Minimise risk by redesign | Apply floor...

Trip to Malaysia

...A Trip to Malaysia Travelling is a sense of adventure that excites people, and also is a big chance for us to learn about other cultures and the way people live their lives. While many tourists travel to France, England or some famous countries in Europe, fewer travel to a small country in Asia. As someone who loves to explore and enjoy new things, 3 years ago in the summer, my boyfriend and I decided to backpack to Malaysia. It was a fantastic trip and an amazing experience for us that you should definitely try it. In this country, there are three destinations that travelers should not miss: the Petronas Twin Towers, Golden Triangle area, and The Genting Highland Park. When we arrived into Kuala Lumpur, we headed straight to the Petronas Twin Towers, which are also known as the world’s tallest tower. They are an impressive icon of the capital of Malaysia that are visible from about everywhere in the city, and dominate the night sky. The Petronas Twin Towers are 1,483 feet tall, have 88 stories, and were completed in 1998. The architecture was very magnificent from the outside, especially at night, they look like ice sculptures. The most attractive architecture of the tower is that at the 41st and 42nd level, there is a skybridge connecting the two towers. The bridge is 170 meters above the ground, 58 meters long and weighs 750 tons. My boyfriend and I drove the high-speed lift that zooms up to the skybridge on the 41st floor; we walked across the skybridge to take some......

Buxton Trip

...According to the knowledge which I have possessed over the years is that the education system in United Kingdom was based on practical application of theories. Surprisingly, the Professional and Academic Skills Support (PASS) module of MBA course in Staffordshire University helped me to gain the experience of applying the acquired theoretical knowledge for the accomplishment of the assigned outdoor activities in the Buxton Residential trip. Although, the module was meant for learning from those outdoor activities to develop one’s managerial skills, I have seen it as a continuous learning process that started from my under-graduate course, where I had the opportunity to come across some theories of leadership and team management. According to Knowles (1975), “We must learn from everything we do; we must exploit every experience as a learning experience…. It is a lifelong process.” Keeping all these in mind, the PASS module has arranged its courses accordingly and thus gave us the opportunity to go through various outdoor tasks in Buxton Residential, with the help of which we can analyze and assess our personality to work accordingly in an organization. Also, the indoor task of Poster Peer Assessment did the needful in understanding what team work is in an organizational background. The purpose of writing this essay is thus what we learn from this module and accordingly how can we improve on it, so that we could fit properly in our respective career jobs in the world of......

This report is made for Mr. Indrajith Aponsu who is our Microeconomics lecturer. In this report I and my group members have gone in death of the process that we learnt at the tea factory. The process that we learnt briefly and the main points, we have discussed it in detail during this report. Furthermore, we enjoyed the entire trip and I think we are really fortunate to learn about tea. To learn a subject like this is a once in a life time opportunity. This opportunity will not work to all the people. We drink tea in large scales, but we don’t realize how this is processed and graded for consumers. Though we don’t get a chance to taste the highest grade in Sri Lanka it is good that we saw how the tea is processed in a factory which is situated in the south. As we all know the highest grade is exported to all the European countries and other countries all around the world. Finally we take this opportunity to thank our instructor for taking us on this trip and also for joining with us to go on the trip. History of Sri Lankan Tea The Sri Lankan tea history goes back to 1824 where British brought the very first tea plant from China. This tea plant was planted in the Royal......

A Trip to France

...We calmed down and followed our parents around. After some time, after seeing where all the princesses lived, we came to the conclusion that Disneyland wasn’t as fun as we had imagined it would be. We saw the princess parade and a place where you could see animals like horses, chickens and rabbits. I think that was the highlight on that trip. Anyway, sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do, but who you do it with, so I would say that I was very lucky to have my sister with me. Of course my parents were to have a bit of ‘fun’ too, so they chose for our family to take a guided trip on a boat. I remember we sailed past Notre Dame. At the time I only knew the building from the Disney movie, so I think I was expecting a man jumping around on the top of the building or something. Another thing I remember was that, when the guide on the boat first mentioned Notre Dame, all the Chinese people raised and for some seconds I only noticed the sound of their cameras. My parents found them quite funny, maybe because the Chinese are known for taking pictures of everything. Pictures of things many people would consider unimportant. Suddenly the boat trip was over. I realized I had fallen asleep. I don’t think it had anything to do with me being tired; I simply believe I was extremely bored and I couldn’t find anything more exciting to do. We got off the boat and walked to the Eiffel tower. When you see the Eiffel tower in TV or in pictures, you don’t get overwhelmed by its size, like......

...vacations. On car journey I would like to talk about today was my visit to Mount WUYI which is located in Fujian province. Last winter vacation, my family and I decided to go to Hainan. Unfortunately, we were informed that Hainan was hit from typhoon 2 days before our departure. As the city repaired damaged, there were still powerful following storms threatening this region. Out of a choice, we canceled our trip. However, it was not often the case that my family and I could get time together to have a holiday trip. In order to fully enjoy our vacation as we planned, we changed our destination to WUYI city. Due to the sudden change, we failed to buy train tickets and had to drive there on our own. It turned out that visiting places like Mount WUYI is perfect for self-driving. It was estimated as a 3-hour driving so we rented a SUV and switched drivers on the way. Each of us were responsible for a part of the highway, and whenever we saw something fascinating, we just pulled over the car to have a closer look at it. I guess those are the merits of renting a car and going on a trip with family. Mount WUYI, a very popular scenic area in China is famous for the natural conservation of numerous ancient plant species and wildlife. The popular activities there include hiking and drifting. The first day we rode a raft down the streams. The raft we took was tied by bamboo, and there were two men using long poles to steer the craft down the water. When drifting smoothly on the......

My Birthday Slip

...My Birthday Slip This was my seventeenth birthday and I couldn’t wait for it, although I was going to be in school for it. I was looking forward to all of the birthday wishes, hugs, and gifts. It always happened that way every year, so I shouldn’t have been that much excited; I guess it was because I was turning a year older. The morning of my birthday, I had gotten up and picked out my birthday outfit. I picked skinny leg khaki pants, a white collared aeropostle, shirt, and brown baby doll shoes. To let it be known that it was my birthday, I added a pink birthday stash that read “Birthday Queen” and a pink and silver crown. I made my hair so pretty, with little tight curls and even did my makeup a little. I like to go all out, so of course I had a brand new brown and cheetah print backpack that was similar to my brown baby doll shoes. I was ready to go. By time I made it to my bus stop down the street from my house, I had already received 3 different sets of balloons and a couple of gifts. The whole ride to school I got phone calls and text messages, so I was beyond happy! All of my balloons were in the aisle and in everyone’s way so it was also a difficult ride to school. Still, I didn’t care because it was my birthday. I couldn’t wait to get to school for two reasons: first, to get off the bus with all of my balloons because I started to get a bit annoyed with them and second, to get more birthday wishes, gifts, and attention. Finally, I had made it to school. I......

A Trip to Dubai

...through one of its many exits by accident but luckily you always have the world’s tallest building to help you get your bearings! We went on a number of trips outside the hotel including a trip to “Ski Dubai”. If you had told me ten years ago that I would be skiing in Dubai I would have said that something drastic had happened to the climate. Instead they have built the world’s largest indoor ski centre which has real snow and even a working chairlift! I spent a whole afternoon skiing down the slopes with my dad while my mom sat on the chairlift and enjoyed hot chocolate in the restaurant halfway down the slope. At the bottom of the slope was an area for children where they can play amongst snow figures and have the mandatory snowball fights! During our stay we also travelled to the Atlantis Palm, Dubai. This is an ultra-modern hotel based on the end of the manmade Palm Island. To give you some idea of the scale of the island it took us 15 minutes to drive from one end to the other.... and the traffic was pretty clear! At the Atlantis we saw their huge indoor fish tank which was host to innumerable fish, rays and sharks. Some of the suites have walls of glass up against the tank and so you can get a nice shock when you wake up in the morning! Other places that we visited and enjoyed were the local markets and a boat trip on Dubai creek.
