Stress Journal Reflection Paper

After having reviewed my Stress Journal assignments for this class, I have noticed that my methods for handling stress have changed. Learning what stress is and the body’s reaction to stress have attributed to this, but also learning methods that I had not thought of or did not know of has also helped me. Not only have I been able to cope with stress quicker, I have also been able to reduce the amount of stress in my life. In the past, if I was confronted with a stressor, I would just try to ignore it or push it to the back of my mind to deal with later. This is a very unhealthy response. It causes even more stress to build up in your body and for the stressor to become a bigger situation than it would have been had you dealt with it right away. In my second and third journal entries, as opposed to the first, I tried to stay in the moment and deal with the stressor at that time. It was much easier to handle and confront the issue rather than dealing with it later and letting my stress reactions have more time to start and run their course. Because of this, I don’t have to deal with the same stressor multiple times. I can deal with it once and move on to something else. Another method that I had not utilized in the past, but started utilizing in the first journal, was the deep breathing technique. Trying to slow my breathing and heart rate down and calming myself down made it easier to deal with the stressor immediately. By calming myself and getting my heart rate in check, I’m able to clearly speak about what I need and what the problem is. This especially comes in handy when dealing with the general public. Calming myself down is a great way to more effectively deal with the stressor and conquer the issue in a more timely manner. I’ve also been able to not think about worst case scenarios all of the time when dealing with…...

...Tasliym Muhammad STLDR-570-A Group Leadership Professor Kim Spinks Reflection Paper #2 July 19, 2012 “My Role within My Organization” I would like to start my revealing my “purpose for joining” the organization I work for. Education is very important to me. When I made the decision to relocate to Pennsylvania one of my main concerns was where my children would attend school. As a child I attended school in the Delaware County area of Pennsylvania and I knew that quality education was very hard to find in that area. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that since I left as a little girl, the area had opened a Charter school, it was a great feeling to know that my children would not be hurt academically by the move to Pennsylvania. I was equally satisfied when I was offered a position within the Charter school (www.chestercommunitycharter.org). This would be a way for me to grasp a feel for the community and become an active participant in the lives of the residents. I have had a very successful year thus far which can be attributed to several reasons, the main reason being my ability to adhere to the “Law of Connection” (Maxwell, 1991). The “Law of Connection” as described by John Maxwell, also has been labeled as the ability to “encourage the heart” by Kouzes and Posner and emotional intelligence by other researchers in the field of leadership. This ability in my opinion is an internally learned ability, it cannot be taught, it’s......

...My Final Reflection There are numerous aspects of this course that have contributed to my learning throughout this semester. This course has provided me with new skills that enhance both my writing ability as well as the ability to analyze a film. The two goals that stood out most were to learn to analyze and critically evaluate ideas, arguments, and points of view and to continue to develop skills in expressing oneself in writing. I benefited from these goals because I now have a deeper knowledge of different film genres and can correctly revise my essays. In order to display the progress made in my writing abilities throughout this semester I chose to revise and analyze Take Me Out to the Ball Game. This class introduced a new aspect of writing for me because I have never been required to analyze the scenes and themes of a film prior to taking this class. The film, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, is a musical comedy about a baseball team. My initial instinct was to classify this film as a simple sports film. However, after analyzing the film it was clear that there was more to it than just a sports perspective. The film had several other themes besides sports, two of which included patriotism and acceptance. It was very interesting to analyze the different relationships among the characters in this sport musical. Despite the different personalities of each character, I found it fascinating that they were so intertwined through their love for baseball and their country.......

Reflection Essay

...Reflective Essay The aim of this essay is to reflect on an incident, which took place in a hospital setting during the first month of my Foundation Degree Assistant Practitioner course. It will explore the importance of communication amongst the health care professionals and how a good nursing documentation is an integral part of nursing. It will also demonstrate how reflection enabled me to make sense of and learn from this experience, as well as identify any further learning developments needed to improve my practice and achieve the level of competency needed for when I qualify as an assistant practitioner. While discussing the knowledge underpinning practice, evidence based literature will be reviewed to support my discussion and for the purpose of reflection the essay will be written in the first person. Spouse, J, et al (2008). Jonhs, C (2009) defined reflection as learning through our every day experiences, towards realising one’s vision of desirable practice as a lived reality. He also added that it is a critical and a flexible process of self inquiry and transformation of being and becoming the practitioner you desire to be. However, Ghaye, T et al. (2000) stated that for the health care professionals to develop a more reflective posture, they must fully embrace both the principles and the practices of reflection. It is about becoming more aware of how we learn and how this affects what we think, feel and do. There are different models for reflection; some are......

Reflection Essay

...Reflection Essay This first semester of my freshman has been a very interested trip indeed. I have learned so much in the short amount of time that I have spent here at Georgia Southern University. I feel as if I have grown, not only as a student, but as a person as well. I have met many new people, made many new friends, and learned many new things. I have so much in my English class. I thought I knew everything there was to know about writing, but I was very wrong. However, I have now learned how to improve on my writing skills, how to write better grammatically correct sentences, and how to use better verb usage. When I came into this semester as a freshman I was very confident in the caliber of my writing. However, my ego was soon crushed shortly thereafter. Even though my writing skills had been very good amongst my fellow peers in high school, at the university level they were merely average. I had to do something quick to learn how improve on my writing skills. With the help of my teacher, I have made tremendous improvements and strides on my writing skills. I believe that I am writing the best papers that I have ever written in my life. I am avidly anticipating the beginning of next semester when I take English 1102, because I cannot wait to see my writing skills improve again. When writing, it is very important that your sentences are grammatically correct. Nothing can ruin a paper faster than a couple of incorrect grammatical errors. I was good about not......

Stress Reflection

...Stress Reflection According to the CDC, “Job stress is defined as the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the worker”. Job stress can also cause someone to a decline in a person’s health and/or cause injury to a person. Our bodies are designed to deal with stress with autonomic responses. No matter what kind of stress that our body experiences it automatically responds with the fight or flight response. This can cause people to have an increase in heart rate and blood pressure and that isn’t good for the heart because it’s being overworked. Stress leads to people not being able to sleep, which can result into a person not being able to think clearly and make adequate decisions. A person could experience heart palpitations, tension in their muscles, headaches, and even gastrointestinal upsets. A person could also experience psychological symptoms from job stress such as feeling unable to cope, depression, anxiety, and cognitive difficulties. An example of job stress could be something such as an employee being overworked, a teacher loses a co-worker or student to death or even relationships that are intimate with co-workers that go bad. There are many different causes for job stress but it is agreed that it’s a result from two factors. According to the CDC, “Nearly everyone agrees that job stress results from the interaction of the worker and the......

Reflection Journal

...Reflection Journal # 8 As with all of the previous modules, this week’s reading was very insightful. There were many key points within the reading. These key points include, but are not limited to, early intervention, opportunities through law and eligibility for early intervention within early childhood special education. The reading also talked about the individual family service plan (IFSP) and curriculum and instructional strategies. Special education early intervention makes a difference in the lives of the children, the parents and families. The principles governing early childhood special education are applicable in all educational areas, in all levels of severity, and in all categories of disability for students of all ages. Children with disabilities learn skills in sequential manner. Early intervention provides a wide range of educational, nutritional, child care, and family supports for children birth to 5 years old. Early intervention special education programs enable educators and parents to promote child development and independence at an earlier age by correcting or minimizing the effects of the disability. With accurate assessments, there are opportunities to prevent or discover secondary disabilities quicker. Congress reauthorized the original special education law, PL 94-142, in 1986, and later updated it again in 1997 and 2004. That reauthorization extended mandatory educational services to children with developmental delays or......

...Marcus Scott UNV-104 September 28, 2014 Eric Nordin Reflection Journal Taking UNV-104 has taught me many essential things that needed to know. To start off the information that was given to help me with my thesis statement proved to be very beneficial on so many levels. I know that I must not be opinionated in my thesis over have it very cluttered. I’ve also learned how to successfully create an outline for an expository paper. Something that I have never tackled before. I now know that writing in third person is accurate in these types of papers. I’ve also found that creating a draft makes writing much easier. As I have stated before in discussion questions, I never stared with a draft in my papers and that proved to show in my grades from previous institutes. Correctly using the right sources to make my paper a collegiate paper was also something that I will cherish from this class. I found that correctly citing data retrieved from reliable sources made my essay flow and sound much better. It helped me get my point across because I had information to help me back up my claims. Also discussed in this class was the importance and benefits of using proper communication. I learned that effective communication can help us not only in school, but also in our career paths. Being able to correctly express yourself in writing shows that you are educated and credible. Out of everything that I have learned in this course I would say the most challenging was the CLC team......

...English 1320 Unit 11 Exercise 1: Reflection Essay Antonio Parks R. Schaffer 03/06/14 I really didn’t care for writing at all before this course. I had not written anything longer than a sentence in over 35 years. My mind was clouded and I didn’t take time to write. When asking me “What type of essay had I written before this course”? My response is very simple. I have not written anything, well if you count writing a journal in the 8th grade then that would be it. My writing has improved immensely. I can write and wasn’t aware that I could. The essay that was the easiest to write for me was the memoir. I found that writing about something that I knew about gave me more control over my audience. The essay that would have been the hardest for me would have been romance. I guess I’m not quit in touch with my other side to write romance. My attitude toward writing at the end of the course is one of great interest. I have learned to enjoy it. I believe if I actually spent the time to write, I could get lot better and enjoy it more. Using my ePortfolio in the future will help me prepare for the job market in the future. Listing my classes, accomplishments, and posting my resume are the primary reasons for the portfolio. Thank you Mr.Schaffer for helping me realize again how important writing is in my everyday life. I will do my best to continue to grow....

...Reflection Journal Carolyn M Reed University of Phoenix Teamwork, Collaboration and Conflict Resolution SOC/110 Dr. Dina Avery February 04, 2015 Reflection Journal In the first week of Class, we went over communication skills and strategies working in groups. I thought to myself, what I could take from this class. Why is this so important? Well, little did I know how crucial the information that we covered would and does have such a major impact on my life in all areas. The strategies and skills that were discussed are those that are used in my work environment every day. I am thinking that if I pay close attention to what is taught I can become better at being me. There is only one like me, so I need to learn the skills I need to become a better co-worker, and leader. This just might be more than I realize. Discussions on how to communicate in groups and with individuals is something that is definitely going to enhance knowledge and skills on communication. As I set in Class, Dr. Avery was teaching on people skills, understanding group dynamics, and communication in a team. It became clear to me, that I had some skills but not enough to carry me further in my college, my career and socially as well. This class touched bases on how to communicate overall and to interact more effectively. As we continued learning the different skills that are needed in communicating, I learned that in order to be a stand out individual in my current position and......

Reflection Essay

...Unit 11: Reflection Essay At the start of this semester my feelings towards writing altogether was extremely negative, whether it was writing a short one paragraph letter or a five page essay I wanted nothing to do with it. Never seeing the point, I have always had a hard time just starting the essay. I could not find the inspiration to write what was needed to create the work of literature my teacher expected of me. With that being said, I can honestly admit that I have never actually completed any writing assignments out of class and next to none of the assignments done in class. Needless to say I have probably failed all but one year in English classes, and the one I passed was because the teacher received a death threat from a student and left the school. Most of the teachers simply spent his/her time keeping me in line so as not to distract the other students. This semester, however, I definitely feel my writing has improved. I have a better understanding of how to structure my entire paper, whether its sentence structure or paragraph layout, what parts of speech should not be used in a paper and to limit my use of contractions. This class has also taught me to spend more time outside of school working on perfecting my work which I plan to take into later classes. All of these changes were made possible because for the first time I had a teacher who was able to make the subject enjoyable and fun. I definitely had the easiest time with the assignments that allowed me......

Reflection Essay

...Unit 11 Exercise 1: Reflection Essay Over the course of these last eleven weeks I have discovered more about my writing skills than I thought I had. In the beginning I had neutral feelings about how well I would do in this course. I’ve always known that I had good writing techniques, but have been out of school for over 10 years and wasn’t sure if I could still write like how I used to. When I was in high school I remember writing essays, research papers, and even memoirs but was only the basics of how to properly write. It gave me practice on my vocabulary as well as sentence and paragraph structure. It also allowed my imagination and thoughts to come out on paper and let the reader indulge in my stories. But how good of a writer was I? After taking a course called Composition 1 in college, I found that my writing skills; even though pretty good, had to be improved. I feel that my writing has improved due to learning how to properly brainstorm ideas and set up my research findings before I put them on my final paper. I also learned how to cite my findings which is a skill they don’t stress about in High School. Writing Essays, or Research Papers aren’t difficult for me, however I must say that writing a Memoir would have to be the most difficult because I don’t like talking about myself let alone have people know personal details of my life. Now that I’m at the end of my course in Composition 1 My attitude and feelings toward writing now has changed. I feel more...

Reflection Essay

...Reflection Essay #2 Populations-at-Risk America is the richest country in the world but, yet we are so poor. There are millions of Americans who are unemployed or underemployed. I believe it starts with education. Higher education is more important now more than ever. Everyone should be afforded the same opportunity to go to college and achieve a degree. Education is the key to success and should be more affordable. A quality education would provide a better life and better opportunities for all Americans. I would promote and be an advocate for social and economic justice by ensuring every student receives the same quality education, starting in elementary schools. Elementary schools need to be better equipped with all the tools students need to be successful. There should be enough books and computers for every child. I would require more art and music classes so student’s creativity will be allowed to flourish. There would be smaller classrooms so students are able to have a personal connection with the teachers. Teachers will be able to have more one on one time with each student, and be able to give more attention to any students who are struggling in a certain area. Elementary schools should ensure that all students get the tools they need for future success. Good teachers are essential in the success of students. Teachers play an important role in the lives of students. Therefore there should be more highly qualified and motivated teachers. Teachers......

One of the psychological stressors that I have gone through is academic pressure. I have been hugely affected by large volumes of homework and exams. Over the years, academic pressure has denied me time for my leisure activities and time to rest. It is often that people’s desires never end. Some of my personal goals include health, social and spiritual goals. In health goals, I would like to have a fit body and reduce my consumption of processed foods. I will achieve this goal by finding a motivation and making a plan. Social goals will include living my life ethically without issues. I will only associate with morally good friends to attain the social goals. Spiritual goals will involve going to church and seeking God more. Being near people who inspire me towards spiritual things will provide an ideal support for my goals accomplishment. Professional goals are imperative to a person that wants to make an impact in their lives. What I plan in my professional life is not just to work in big organizations but to be highly skilled, competent, and empathetic and loving in every case that I come across. An ideal situation that will assist me in attaining this goal is through education. I will never allege to know all, but I will be teachable and humble. ...the concept of self actualization needs. Self actualization needs involves continual growth or enhancement of oneself. This can potentially assist the employee in making working related decisions which can help grow a company. So far I have applied this to my other business classes by being when I learned about growth and development. The process that worked best for was emotional labor because it gave me time to reflect or think about things which I never would have thought about. By doing so, I derived a sense of satisfaction, understanding, and an early lesson on a subject which I hope to learn soon References Brotheridge, C., & Grandey, A. (2002).
