The International summer school is a good opportunity for me to develop multiple perspectives through its summer program. I expect to meet different people and learn from all kind of ideas. The diverse cross-cultural environment of the program will enrich me in different ways, I simply enjoy this kind of place where harmony between different cultures seems to exist, but the most important of all is that I will be committed to complete the whole program since I have a strong commitment to my education and a big desire to learn.

I am majoring in International Business with a specialization in Finance and the courses that the university offers are matching my degree plan, so I thought of expanding my education as well as my aspiration to explore a new culture and civilization. Studying and understanding the language and the cultural aspects are crucial when doing business in any foreign country, I believe that this program would greatly benefit me in my career path.

I am an open-minded person who loves to discover new countries and new cultures, and the Spanish culture triggered my attention. Spain is the adequate country to take Spanish classes and develop the learning in the daily life. Thanks to the university’s summer program it is an opportunity for me to learn in class and out of class, and no one would miss out this occasion. I have read about other cultures in books and seen them on television but that does not compare to the feeling you get when you throw yourself in another culture. I believe that studying abroad would be a life changing experience that will open many opportunities for my education by benefiting both the community that I represent and the nation I will study…...

Summer

...It was the first day of summer and I was so excited I got to relax until 10:00am. I was woken up by a delicious smell I wasn’t quite sure what it was but it smelled extremely good. “Are you awake?” mom asked. I replied loudly, “Yes mother.” She told me to hurry down because we needed to discuss something. So I gotten up showered, comb my hair, put my clothes on and headed down the stairs. “Morning mom,” I said. Mom was down here all alone cooking breakfast Pancakes, eggs, grits, and sausage. “Yummy,” I said. Everything looked so good because mom always cooked everything she made from scratch. So I got me a small portion of the breakfast and sat at the table. Mom came along and joined me. She explained to me that I’ll be staying with my dad this summer because she have an important job she had to attend. I wasn’t excited about this because I thought this summer was going to be the summer that mom and I was going to be able to spend time together. I had to be understanding because mom was a travel nurse and when hospitals are short of employers they call people like her to come out to work. So she told me after breakfast pack my clothing she was taking me to the airport my plane leave at 4:00pm. Dad stays in Miami, Florida so I had to pack clothing for that type of weather; which it’s always sunny down that way. So I packed all my shorts, tank top shirts, bathing suits, and sandals. Thirty minutes later “Are you ready?” mom called. I wasn’t ready to leave her but I guess......

Summer

...the summer was hot From an astronomical view, the equinoxes and solstices would be the middle of the respective seasons,[1][2] but a variable seasonal lag means that the meteorological start of the season, which is based on average temperature patterns, occurs several weeks later than the start of the astronomical season.[3] According to meteorologists[4][5],summer extends for the whole months of June, July, and August in the northern hemisphere and the whole months of December, January, and February in the southern hemisphere. Under meteorological definitions, all seasons are arbitrarily set to start at the beginning of a calendar month and end at the end of a month.[6] This meteorological definition of summer also aligns with the commonly viewed notion of summer as the season with the longest (and warmest) days of the year, in which daylight predominates. The meteorological reckoning of seasons is used in Austria, Denmark and the former USSR; it is also used by many in the United Kingdom, where summer is thought of as extending from mid-May to mid-August. In Ireland, the summer months according to the national meteorological service, Met Éireann, are June, July and August. However, according to the Irish Calendar summer begins 1 May and ends 1 August. School textbooks in Ireland follow the cultural norm of summer commencing on 1 May rather than the meteorological definition of 1 June. From the astronomical perspective, days continue to lengthen from equinox to solstice......

Summer Season

...The summer season is one of the main seasons of India. It starts from the month of April and lasts up to the end of June. There is intense heat during these months. The sun shines perpendicularly causing numerous difficulties for the people. They want to stay indoors, especially during mid-day. They get tired very soon and feel lethargic. Summer mornings are little bit pleasant and so are the summer evenings. Hence people look busy during these times. They try to finish all their work as quickly as possible because they know that a long hot day is waiting for them. At noon the heat is at its peak. The towns and cities look deserted. There are few people on the road. Sometimes it is too hot to continue the work. Everything is paralysed. People go inside their houses in the darkest room. They drink cold water again and again just to quench their thirst but they never feel satisfied. During summer we eat little food. We do not feel healthy and sometimes develop many complications regarding health. Any irregularity in food-habit leads to sickness. Hot wind called loo' blow throughout the day and many die of heat stroke. The rich people do not have much problem because they have electric fans, coolers and air conditioners. But the poor people have to face hardships. They go on with their work in the open under hot sun. The season is lazy one. People do not feel active and only want to sit under fan in the cold dark room. It is therefore all schools and colleges......

Summer

...My perfect summer I never imagined a wonderful summer as the one I have spent in Logan. Global Academy 2012 gave me the opportunity to experience the most unforgettable moments of my life. Despite the cultural shock, the lonely I felt at the beginning and all de embarrassing moments I had, Logan have been the perfect place for me to grow as a person, to improve my English, to make new friends, and to become more independent. I just can describe this summer as my best summer ever, my perfect summer. My most memorable moment in Logan was the ropes course because I was doing really challenging things, things that I never thought I could do. After I achieve my goals at the ropes course and overcame all the challenging things I felt a great satisfaction and self-realization. At the beginning I was shock by American culture but as soon as I started understanding it I enjoy every single moment in Logan. I really loved my first academic track excursions. I went to a restaurant in a small town called Ogden and I tried the Mormon Muffin, it was so delicious. I also had a great time at the Independence Day celebration at Rommie Stadium, the fireworks were amazing. I had never seen so many fireworks in one night. I was so amazed and I took a lot of pictures with my camera. These experiences gave me the opportunity of talk with native speakers and improve my English skills. Shopping in Logan is one of the things I enjoyed the most; the clothes, shoes, and almost everything are so...

End of Summer

...Steph wrote a while back that she was sad to see summer going. For me, especially the way this summer has gone, I can’t agree. Yes, I’ll definitely miss the Saints games. I’ll miss the nice days, but for me, this is the time of year when I’m looking ahead. I’m getting closer to finishing up the software I’ve been working on all summer long. I may actually even get to take a real vacation in a month or two. Plus, with the advent of cooler evenings, I’m actually able to open the windows at home and avoid the noise of the air-conditioner and fans once in a while. And I’ve got a hope that with cooler weather, a break in the work (at least temporarily), and no Saints games taking up my my evenings, I’ll find more time to get out and ride my trike. And it’s been this way since I started my business. I’ve always tried to take on less work over the summers, but every year but one I’ve been working on a project that was originally supposed to be done in May, and ended up finishing around September. It’s a chronic problem in the software field, but being an outsider on these projects, I wonder why companies don’t bite off smaller chunks so they can let their employees take some time off during the summer when the ankle-biters are home from school, and families want to take vacations. And just for completeness’ sake, I should note that the one summer I had off, I was working on a project that was running late, and when hit with completely unreasonable demands on my time in May, I......

Summer Reading

...Khiree Cross Ap Summer Reading Assignment The Awakening By: Kate Chopin July 18, 2013 Part One The setting of The Awakening so far is in the Grand Isle, a popular place for a summer vacation where wealthy people go. The Grand Isle is a spot where all the wealthy Creoles, from New Orleans, go for the summer to relax, and have fun. The time setting seems to be in the early 1900s because of the things they do and the lack of technology. The husband of Edna, Leonce, go away on a trip and on this trip he sends her chocolates which no one in the present time eats anymore. The tone of The Awakening at the start is a relaxed and peaceful one. As the story progresses is becomes a more serious and emotional one. It is serious because Leonce feels as if his wife is carless for her family. She doesn't show too much love nor is affection towards them and that becoming a problem. It is also emotional because Edna is clueless to what he is talking about and feels bad after he tells her off before he leaves for his trip. She is lost and wants to find her own independence, or find herself. Part Two The three characters that I will characterize from this book are Edna, Madamoiselle, and Robert. Edna is a caring and loving wife and mother. She is married to a rich businessman Leonce who is the provider for their family. In the story so far Edna seems as if she is lost or missing something. She seems tired of the lifestyle she is living and is nonchalant about everything. She likes......

A Summer Reading

...of Bernard Malamud, “A Summer’s Reading.” The reach for respect from the people around him causes a lot of dilemma within the main character, George Stoyonovic. And those dilemmas led to consequences that George hated. George, a high school drop out, can not get any job during one summer. He decides to read the magazines found at home. But when he met Mr. Cattanzara, he immediately lies about the hundred books he is reading, in order for Mr. Cattanzara to respect him as well as to be proud of him. Respect is a form of acknowledgement of one’s existence. Respect is very important to everybody. Respect also gives a person a sense of confidence that he is not a failure and contradicts the idea that he is not good enough. People want respect because they want others to know how good they are. Though everybody wants it, most people often take it for granted. The irony of it all is that people wants it so much that they would do anything just to get it. In the story, the theme Respect is very important for everybody was shown a couple of times. An example of these scenes is when George was contemplating whether or not he should attend the night classes. “He has considered registering in a night high school, only he did not like the idea of teachers always telling him what to do. He felt that they had not respected him.” He decides that since he has nothing to do at home, attending night-class would be great and it would help him......

Improving Summer School for at-Risk Students T

...Improving Summer School for At-Risk Students to Improve MAP Achievement H Abstract “Race to the Top” have left public education systems searching for ways to make sure students are reaching their highest potential. Because of the importance of accountability issues to school systems, it is important to examine ways to help students reach their potential. One tool school districts use to aid in improving student achievement is summer school. This qualitative study provides an overview of the history of summer school. Additionally, it offers a synopsis of various types of summer programs and at-risk student populations often targeted by summer school. The researcher also offers a review of literature on student learning loss over the summer months. Summer learning programs have the potential to help children and youth improve their academic and other outcomes. This is especially true for children from low-income families who might not have access to educational resources throughout the summer months and for low-achieving students who need additional time to master academic content. Because many students loose learning over the summer and some students need more time on task to master content, participation in summer learning programs should mitigate learning loss and could even produce achievement gains on standardized test such as MAP. Overview One hundred and fifty Title I-eligible students from Chandler Creek Elementary school will enroll......

Summer Camps

...It is not easy for parents to make the decision to send their child away into the waiting arms of strangers who promise to take care of them — people who promise to show them the wonders of nature, fun, new skills, and friendships. As a parent of two children, even I struggle with the idea, and I have been around summer camps my entire life. The world needs the next generation to be more tolerant of each other’s views, ideology, and beliefs. Summer camp is an opportunity for children to be exposed to the best of human character. Carefully selected role models are dedicated to showing your child how to have fun, learn from others, and make friends in person rather than online. Camp allows kids to meet people from all over the world, every race, culture, and socioeconomic level. I still remember one of my counselors, Danny, from England, explaining to me, “The world is full of excuses. It doesn’t matter where you came from or what has happened to you. At the end of the day you choose how you treat others.” There is something magical about a summer camp experience. Each and every camp in the world is different. Not merely because of geography or location, but because of the traditions and people who have touched the camp. Every camp has hidden treasures of history and traditions that give it character and identity. Even with agency camps like the YMCA where there is a common mission, every camp is unique in its style, program, games, geography, traditions, and......
