Appendix 2 Evaluation of the Waste Management program

1. Evaluation of the outdoor environment (veg. garden) program

• The program has been successfully working. The staff and children are working together to create a sustainable environment.

• Kinder teacher took the kinder children for excursion to the nearest Bunning and they bought pumpkin, snow peas, tomato, capsicum’s plants and coriander’s seeds.

• Pre-kinder and kinder educator planted these plants with the children’s help.

• Children are watering, plants every day and all staff is helping by doing positive role modelling.

• We all can see the plants growing up steadily.

• Educators teach the all children to look after our plants.

2. Evaluation of the outdoor environment (fertiliser) program

• Budget has been checked. Service could just afford the compost bin but not the worm farm yet to compost bin has been bought by the head of committee.

• Policy on sustainable practices has been made.

• Fact sheet has been displayed on the top the bin and in the kitchen about what will goes to which coloured bin.

• Chef is putting needful scarp in the container.

• Room staffs are taking the turn to throw the scrap into the bin and children are playing the main role in that turn taking because they are throwing scrap into the bin.

• We are waiting for the compost to be ready for our plants.

3. Evaluation of the Cleaning practices/ chemical management program

• A safer sustainable cleaning practices program has been implemented and positive outcomes are coming are coming from all staff .

• The service has stopped buying a wet wipes and is ordering more quantity of paper towel.

• The parents have also expressed their satisfaction with this practice.

• We are getting a good result from this practice, especially the children who are having a sensitive skin, are getting a good benefit from this.

4. Evaluation of the water environment (recycling ) program

• The program has been working effectively on saving the water, which include behavioural changes, and water recycling.

• Sustainable practice policy has been made.

• Training has been provided to all staff about sustainable practices.

• Staffs are making efforts to manage and conserve water practices in a sustainable manner. Chef is reusing water to rinse the dishes after washing the fruit and vegetables in the plugged sink.

• All staff is helping by doing positive role modelling.

• All staffs are implementing new changes. They are teaching the children to use the left over water for the plants and teaching them the value of water.

• Most children are adding this practice into their routine; they are putting their left over drinking water into the plants.

5. Evaluation of the waste environment program

• 20 numbers of four-coloured bins have been bought provided in each room.

• Small training session has been done in the staff meeting about how to sort out the rubbish.

• Positive response has been received from all the stake holders.

• Three green bins have been dropped off by council and all the staffs are putting their efforts to put all organic things into the bin.

• Sustainable practice policy has been made and all the staffs are reusing recycle material for the children to play.

• Five boxes have been kept in the store room for this recycle material. After washing and drying containers, they supposed to go to the store room.

• Cardboard boxes are used for the children to play as well.

• Newsletter boxes are used for the children to play as well.

• Posters about the benefit of sustainable practices have been displayed in the foyer.…...

...Bowen Family Systems Theory I have quite a large family. My nuclear family consists of my mom, dad, brother and myself. My mom’s side of the family equates for that majority of our family. My mother is the youngest of nine! As one could guess, I have many aunts and many cousins. Because there are so many people of all different ages there are many patterns of interaction and diversity issues that affect the family dynamics. The nature of my parent’s relationship is extremely loving, affectionate and kind. My parents were strict in many aspects but lenient in other aspects. However we did have to face two major losses in the family, both of my grandmothers. When thinking about interaction patterns, family rituals and celebrations come to mind.
