Discussion Question - Week 6

...Introduction This week study module is all about my learning styles and how best I make use of my ability to learn, as a student on the MBA program. It is true that I might have a distinctive learning style. This particular learning style might have an impact on how well I am coping in my studies. It is particular true that some might learn best through audial information and others through visuals. Even so, there exist many different theories that were presented to us this week that describes how we as students prefer to learn best. Preferred Learning Style Carl Jung (1875 – 1961) developed a theory on learning style that categorises people in terms of different learning personality patterns. He highlighted two important processes that are important in learning, 1) how we take in information and 2) what we do with that information once it is in our brain. He called the first perception and the second judgement. This theory led to the ‘Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator’ (MBTI). However Kolb (2005) believe our learning styles comes from ‘genetics, our life experiences and demand from our current environment’ (Kolb, 2005). Four different learning styles were also developed and the theory of experiential learning and learning style inventory. In reading the four different styles by Kolb, I can easily associate my learning to ‘The Accommodator’. This style can be attributed to those strong in experience and experimentation. I am a doer and this style is for those that enjoy doing...

...Week Six Learning Team Paper FIN/571 Foundations of Corporate Finance August 4, 2014 Week Six Learning Team Paper Peggy Parks worked as a building code auditor, saving money into her 401 (k) for retirement. But like every American citizen, her 401 (k) suffered a drastic reduction due to the economic downturn in 2007. Worried about her retirement, Peggy decided to invest in an alpaca business, due to a high return rate, rather than depend only on the financial market. She felt she had more control with a tangible asset, such as alpacas. Alpacas are well loved and can be kept as a pet or for breeding. They have the look of a llama because of their fleece. Many people use the fleece for clothing, such as sweaters and ponchos. It is light in weight, but warm. Alpacas have a demand all over the world, tax savings for those breeding, a deferral on capital gains until the alpaca is sold, tax write off for maintenance and feeding, and they are insurable. According to the video, her investment decision was based on research that proved to be profitable. She obtained a return of $15,000 in the first year for her initial $56,000 investment. Although Peggy had a return of 27% on her initial investment on the alpaca ranch, she could take advantage of capital strategies to maximize earnings. At first, Peggy could invest part if not all, of her remaining 401(k) balance on the ranch, which could be used to buy more alpacas and breed them. It is more advantage to her to invest on a......

...Business Research Project Part 5 Learning Team QNT 561 September 08, 2014 Business Statistical Analysis Scenario A GMC manager recently noticed that there is a production difference between the early shift and the late shift. The manager would like to determine why there is a difference in production between the shifts and asked for research on the issue. The research team came up with the following research question: Is there a reason for the different production levels between the day and evening shifts. Our team has come up with the following two null hypotheses: H0 - There is a significant difference in employee productivity between shifts due to worker age. Ha - There is no significant difference in employee productivity between shifts due to worker age. In order to accomplish this, we need to find the average number of errors along with the standard deviation. By doing so, we can set up a confidence interval to see if the late shift is truly doing better when it comes to quality. If they are, we can make the nomination that the manager has the late shift supervisors provide guidance to the early shift supervisors. There are various statistical reports that outsource the relationship between the independent variable(s) and the dependent variable. Here we will realize how GMC will translate the organization problem into a statistical problem, provide a solution to the problem statistically, and then translate the statistical solution...

...Learning Team Reflection Augusto Alvarez, Ani Hakobyan, Stephanie Kirk, Cristina Linares, Debbie Voeks FIN/571 Foundations of Corporate Finance June 23, 2014 Clifford Merchant Learning Team Reflection Introduction Turning tangible assets into investments is nothing new, investors did the same thing during previous market downturns, and they did not always come out ahead. A year ago, 49 years old Peggy Parks, who worked as a building code auditor got tired of watching her retirement savings investments going in the wrong direction and resulting in losing half of her 401(K) investments. To recover from that lost, Peggy Parks made an unconventional investment after learning how robust the Alpaca’s business can be. According to Peggy, “with Alpacas it is something tangible that you have on hand and always going to be there” (University of Phoenix, 2014). Diversification Peggy lost almost half her retirement in the stock market and decided to turn to the Alpaca business for her new retirement plan (University of Phoenix, 2014). She had made a good return the first year of business. There is a risk involved with investing in only one asset. Stable Money Makers demonstrated this when it mentioned how investors lost significant money from investing in Emus in the 1990’s. Diversification is reducing risk by......

...Week 6 Learning Team Reflection MGT521 Week 6 Learning Team Reflection Question #2 There are various degrees of unethical behavior ranging from stealing office supplies to embezzling money within your organization. Unethical behavior becomes common practice if this is the organizational culture finds this as an acceptable practice. As in the case of Lehman Brothers, the top level executives demonstrated this type of unethical behavior and encouraged the employees to behave in the same way. Employees quickly realized there are no internal controls in place to prevent them from practicing unethical behavior and ultimately spilled over into their business dealings. Why? The reason is less risk of getting caught for this type of behavior. The company culture at Lehman Brothers was a reward-driven organization, which promoted employees to perform to the highest level and in exchange would be rewarded. One of the risks involved in this approach is that employees will do whatever it takes to continue to perform at that rate for the benefits of reaping the reward. The core values of these employees will eventually reveal themselves and the individual will arrive at a crossroad by either doing what is right or wrong. Moreover, top level management at Lehman Brothers misrepresented information to the stakeholders, such as lying about how much top level management was getting paid, and manipulating the data on reports to hide any wrongdoing of misappropriating funds. In the......

...Week 6 Discussion * Explain whether or not the U.S. Government should do more to protect consumers. Conversely, should consumers become more aware of when they are purchasing products in today’s business environment? * Suppose you were an IT manager at a business. Identify the specific laws addressing consumer information that would need to be considered by your company. Explain why such laws are necessary to adhere to. Answer: In my opinion the U.S. government is doing a great job protecting its consumers by putting laws, regulations, and guidelines in place for corporations. Not all of the responsibility should fall on the government, some of the liability should belong to the consumer to take precautions before shopping. Everyone should research before purchasing because it is smart shopping. You would not feed your child something that was in a package that you could not view its contents, so why would you purchase an item you know nothing about. Research…research…research. Being a compliance officer at my current job, I would have to say the most important federal law to adhere to as an IT manager is privacy. Working for an insurance company, patient’s and client’s information is shared in emails and if they were leaked the company would be in direct......

Assignment 1: World View Chart Writing Assignment Tanisha Hayden Professor Sean-David McGoran World Religions 212 December 14, 2015 In the course of recent weeks there has been a lot of information about how diverse religions handle numerous themes, for example, human instinct, if there is a God or divine beings, great and detestable, and different ceremonies that are imperative to perform. This paper will take a gander at all the distinctive religions that we have concentrated on and directed through the semester, yet we will be looking at one particular classification and that is of the Afterlife in these religions. The one point that I discovered the most fascinating and illuminating is the way diverse religions handle the considered passing and if there is life after death. Religion all through history has tried to lighten this worry by clarifying what happens after death while also working it into the teachings of good, malevolence, mortality, and salvation. In spite of the fact that there is a wide assortment of convictions they can be contracted down to two focal conviction designs, the thought of resurrection or the thought of the individual heading off to an alternate other worldly plane, for example, the thought of Heaven and Hell. select one (1) category from the completed World View Chart. ...Learning Team Reflection Week 4 How does the development of a contract administration plan affect a company’s business? A contract administration plan is critical to the success of a company that relies on complex contracts to conduct operations. A contract by definition is a binding agreement between two or more parties. The parties may be individuals, business entities, or a governmental entity. Before a contract is drawn up negotiations occur where one party offers a product or service under precise terms for a set fee. Most contracts cover a specific time frame. The bigger and more complex the product or service, the more a contract administration plan is necessary. The plan keeps detailed notes on milestones, deadlines, and the submission of any deliverables. The ultimate goal of a contract administration plan is to provide company’s involved in the contact agreements with maximum profit with minimal risk. The development of a contract administration plan affects a company’s business because it helps companies manage projects, original documents, costs, deadlines, and spending. Proper contract management “saves time and money when change orders are requested or claims or prepared.” (Cross,2012). The information found regarding preparing a contract administration plan, states that the company has the ability to focus on the major contract outputs and best practices. It is the road map to ensure that the company receives all that is stated in the contract from the......
