Hate Crimes
The topic of my choice to do my research paper on is Hate Crimes. I chose this topic because I thought it would be interesting to explore the minds of an individual who desire to cause harm to another individual or a group of individuals just because he/she opposes to individuality. According to the media and articles that have been published over the last couple of years, there has been a large number of hate crimes spreading throughout the world. Many groups that are being targeted by this malicious crime are those that are of homosexuality, race, and religious.
Doing my research I read an article on how the minds of a person who commits hate crimes are develop. A person who commits hate crimes are usually an individual who has been abused as a child and violence is the only way they have learned to solve their problems. They are usually a lonelier, have difficulties with being around a group of people. These individuals tend to be small minded, not accepting to others having different opinions and beliefs on life. Hate crimes are premeditated and prejudice crimes that are carried out by individuals who wish to cause harm to individuals for being of different.
The highest number of hate crimes is due to homosexuality. According to Chris Saldnan, “sexual orientations are up six-percent nationwide”. Since homosexuality has been accepted with open hearts and minds around the world, there are still some others who feel they need to seek action to stop it. Some people believe that homosexuality is an epic failure of the world and that it needs to control immediately. There are a lot of people who feel that same sex marriage is a disgrace to the world and that’s not what God intended when he created the earth. Due to a lot of different beliefs and intakes on homosexuality there are a lot of misunderstandings and basis opinions on the matter. A lot of hate crimes are happening within the homosexual communities is because of transgender individuals.
Transgender is a women or a man that opposes to their natural gender to become the opposite sex. With transgender becoming more and more popular in today's society and now it’s becoming harder to realize who is a man and who is a women the rate for homosexuals to be targeted in a hate crimes is very high. Most hate crimes towards transgender people are due to the nature of them not letting their partners or peers that they come in contact with know what their true gender was before changing it. Even though we know that this exist in the world today there are still a lot of people who are still homophobic to the situation. In most cases bullying one about interacting with a transgender person is where the situation takes a turn. An article that was written by Nicholas Wells, Shayne Jacobs and Tina Moore by the New York Daily News on 8/23/13 about a Harlem Women Dies after being Assaulted in possible Hate Crimes. Sources say “21 year old Islan Nettles was brutally beaten by his friend because his friend found out he was born a man." According to the article “Nettles was walking down W. 18th and Fredrick Douglas Blvd with some of her other transgender friend when she was attack by one of her male friend".
“He punched Nettles to the ground where he brutally beat her until she was unconscious, one of her other run into a nearby police station where she alerted the police of the situation." "Nettles was on life support and later died after they took her off live support." The bond that was set for crimes was only 2,000 for the person who committed this crime. In many cases a transgender women is killed by a man due to false presentation of acting as a women. In my opinion I believe if everyone can just open and be understanding to others feelings and desires that we can eliminate hate crimes on transgender, lesbians, gays, and bisexuals. Even if we can't stop these crimes for good we can at least try helping every one understand that humans are entitled to have their own opinions and ideas on what they feel is more ideal within their lives.
For century there has been violence against every race. For example slavery started because whites didn't like blacks. Racist have demised the world for years and we all should try to put an end to it. According to an author Ryan J. Reilly of Huff Post written on 12/27/2013 “Blacks are higher to be targeted, Latinos are second mostly likely to be targeted against for hate crimes. In 1865 an organized group of white supremacies Ku Klux Klan (aka) KKK was created. The motives for the KKK was to keep Blacks separated form Whites they believe that this was God callings and will, he created Whites to be higher and better than Black people. The KKK organization still exists today, but not as strong as when it was first founded.
An article I read posted by author named Steven Crockett Jr reported a hate crime due to racism in San Jose State University College where three White students tortured an African American student. Crockett reported “They also outfitted the room with a Confederate flag and wrote the n-word on a dry erase board. Then the students clamped a bicycle lock shut on his neck and told him they'd lost the key, according to the San Jose Mercury News”. According to Crockett’s report the young teens also had a “Nazi symbols in the apartment, including a picture of Adolf Hitler, the "SS" lightning bolt symbol and a swastika”. Latinos are targeted in most hate crimes because the average American citizen feels they lack the skills to succeed in the United States because of the language barrels. They also feel that because the Latino community is becoming so large that they are over populating and they take jobs from citizens who are legal to be in the United States. U.S. News an article written by Abby Halage reports that “According to data on Pew Research Hispanic Trends Project from 2013, 51 percent of the 35 million Hispanic adults living in the U.S. are immigrants. While the majority (81 percent) of the Hispanics pooled in the Pew study expressed satisfaction with their current state of living, others live in constant fear of attacks. Stories like the one of a 40-year-old Mexican immigrant on Staten Island, who suffered a broken jaw after a 20-year-old swung a scooter at his head, keep the fear alive”.
Religious has always played a major part in starting uproar nationwide. Genocides have happen all over the world for many centuries. Genocide is when violence is carried out to harm another group of individuals to destroy that group's existence; this too plays a major role in hate crimes. An example of religious hate crime is The Holocaust, Adolf Hitler killed over 6 million Jews, and the Sudanese Muslim killed over 2 million Sudanese Christians because of religious. In today society due to the 911 attack happening on the United States Muslim are more subjected to being profiled against in hate crimes.
A report was on NBC News dated Mar 31, 2012 reported a Muslim woman named Shaima Alwad of San Diego was found beaten to death in her home. "Shaima Alwad was found by her 17 year old daughter in the dining room of their rented home on Mar 24, 2012". Reports stated there was a note left next to her body which read “Go back to your country you’re a terrorist". Additionally research by ADL Notes Anti- Jewish Hate Crimes Remain Vast Majority of Religious Based, written October 24, 2012. States that “In California hate crimes against Jews have increased over 54% since 2011”, today Law Enforcement handles more of hate crimes than any other crimes around the world.
What's so sad about hate crimes is this mindset starts at an early age. As parent we set the foundation for our children to follow a path into adulthood. With setting ignorance into the minds and heart in the next generation at an early age we install this feeling and mindset into our children early on. Hate crimes and racism is a disease that spreading badly and it needs to be stop quickly, we all are human and we all should be treated as such. In today's society bullying has taking an extreme all-time high. With educating ourselves, and our children as they grow older on the different types of religious and culture that's being introduce into society today we can put an end, well maybe not an end... but we can at least try to come together as one.

...Making Teams Work in a Changing Market Winning the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is no small feat. To be given the Baldrige award, a company must excel in three major measurements of quality: (1) customer satisfaction, (2) product and service quality, and (3) quality of internal operations. Previous winners have included such companies as Solectron and the General Motors Saturn Division. Taking home the Baldrige award was the last thing on the minds of Judith Corson and her partner, Jeffrey Pope, when they evaluated the situation at their Minneapolis-based market research firm, Custom Research, in the early 1990s. The two partners faced a market full of client companies that had downsized and were asking more of Custom Research. The problem for Corson and Pope was that Custom Research was experiencing a flattening of growth—the firm had neither the resources it needed to expand its employee base nor the technological capacity it needed to meet the growing demands. The business partners were facing the hard reality that to survive in the market they would have to provide better management of clients’ work with their current staff and resources. Corson and Pope realized they had to do something quickly. The two partners decided to abandon the traditional departmentalized structure of the organization and group their 100 or so employees into account teams. Each account team would have an account and research team leader assigned to facilitate the direction of the......

...when you had to participate in a group. You were probably in your first, second or third week. Try to remember that very first meeting as a newly formed group. Where were you? Somewhere down one of the hallways? In a classroom? With whom were you acquainted? Who were complete strangers to you? Try to remember what you saw, how you felt, how you experienced this very first meeting. Write down your impressions in short sentences or words only. We were in a class room and the teacher explained us the project we were going to make. We knew each other for 3 weeks so we had quite good impression of our class mates. Furthermore from my point of view you cannot say that you really know the persons. However I did not have a clear view how every team member deals with group assignment so it was just wait and see. I felt a bit nervous but also exiting because it was the first year and everything was new. You really have to start good was my view to succeed in the first year. The meeting was actually quite ok, we divided tasks and just worked on it. Class assignment I gave general characteristics of the forming stage and asked your: Does this sound familiar to you? Recognize the general atmosphere I just described? Yes I recognize this atmosphere everybody has his own behavior and different opinions. You have quiet types of persons but also busy types of persons. Some examples what happens on a individual level. They want to be accepted, serious issues are not shown, avoiding......

...There is a saying that many hands make light work. The essence of this statement is that more can be achieved as a collective than individually. There are numerous benefits of teamwork. Here are my top 6. 1. Creativity We all have different skills, knowledge and personal attributes. By utilising all of these different aspects in a team, more ideas can be generated. As more ideas are generated, more creative solutions are generated, leading to better results. 2. Satisfaction Lack of job satisfaction is often one of the key things highlighted in surveys of employees. Individuals working together as a team to achieve a common goal are continually developing. As they interact more energy and enthusiasm is created. When this energy is utilised, it produces results which positively impacts on motivation and leads to even more success. 3. Skills Even the best qualified individual cannot have all of the skills to do everything. Some people excel at coming up with the ideas. Others love the detail while there are those that focus on the big picture. There are others who can be counted on when it comes to implementing and follow through of a plan. The key point is that when a team works together, it has a huge range of skills available that it can utilise to deliver extraordinary results. 4. ...Development Team: One of the most important things to keep in mind when assembling work teams is team efficacy. Team efficacy is basically where effective teams have confidence in them and each other in the ability to succeed. Everyone that will be a part of this developmental team will have to come together and agree on what is best for the subject at hand. You will have to come in agreement with one another to work effectively as a team. Working as a team will create positive synergy that will allow an increase in performance. Having the correct work team established will also allow an easier and more organized work environment. When members know their role and what is expected of them, their job becomes easier. To create an effective team, you will need to be able to function and work together while displaying certain characteristics. Those characteristics are as follows: Adequate resources – must have adequate amounts of resources outside of the group to sustain it. You must have support on a variety of levels. In this case your support would be from the different jobs each of you holds in your development group. Those of you from the school system can provide classrooms, teachers and first hand encounters with students. Those of you with NCPIE can provide outside eyes looking in. Diversity, racial, ethnic, gender and disability issues are your main concerns. Lastly, those with The Woodson Foundation can provide logistical support, program development and...

...Team Work Team Work Cooperative or coordinated effort on the part of a group of persons acting together as a team or in the interests of a common cause .In 1Corinthians 12-30 Paul is teaching us an important lesson about team work and working together. We need teams or someone to work with in almost every aspect of life. Someone once shared an Acronym with me stated, “T”-together, “E”- each one, “A”- achieves, “M”- more. I like the message in this little catch phrase, but it is not the reality of we find within the4 ranks of the Mississippi of Department of Health. There seems to always be tensions so thick that I can see it. Sometimes it seems as if the Employees of the Mississippi Department of Health have forgotten why we are there. Paul tells us that the body has many members but they all have their own role or function in that body. I am a district supervisor for with the WIC program in Mississippi, when I first took the job there seemed to be some type of on going conflict between the warehouses in the health department. They would not have there quarterly meeting together or anything; when I came aboard I made immediate changes, and now they have Christmas dinner. In the healthcare setting we are very consistent with what Paul says in his teachings. In the field of healthcare we are indeed one body with many members. Sometimes the food service staff seems to be looked down on by the nurses. The nurses sometimes......

Teams do many things and contribute much to today’s competitive organizations. There are four primary typed of teams: Problem-Solving Teams, Work Groups, Quality Teams and Virtual Teams. (Uhlig, 2008) In this paper I will describe these different teams, what they are like, and how they work to reach goals. Teams are created within organizations to bring together their top employees that have the skills and knowledge to reach that organization’s specific goals. There are several types of teams used by organizations. Each one is unique in how they work and each one shows how employees working together are more productive than when they work alone to reach certain goals. (Uhlig, 2008) Within an organization that uses teams to reach their goals, there will be formal and informal team structures. Formal teams are structured, have a specific purpose, and are named department, division, or team within an organization. These teams can be temporary or on-going within the organization. (Schemerhorn, Osborn, Uhl-Bien, & Hunt, 2012) Formal teams work based on a hierarchical structure. This means that there is a manager and employees. Organizations that want to lessen the emphasis of hierarchy may change the manager’s title to lead or coach. The employees may be called associates or......

...Todays teams can operate virtually, without the physical limitations of distance or time. We can use electronic collaboration technology and other techniques to leverage the individual diversity that we can find on today’s teams. When developing a strategy for communication and collaboration you must anticipate the learning style and personality styles of your team. Each team has its own unique characteristics, interests and concerns. Each presents it own challenges and opportunities. Looking at a team that consists of the following personality types; Thinker, Organizer and Giver in an online environment, it may be helpful to use email threads for communication. The thinker and the organizer will both contribute well in an email thread because it allows for structure. Email threads allow the reader to keep and organize or reflect on what is being discussed. The giver likes to study and offer assistance to others, which can also be found in the email thread format. This will enable the team to better collaborate when they come together to complete the project. It is possible that the thinker will have analyzed the situation from all angles and would be able to easily layout a timeline or graph of his thought process that will lead the organizer to establish a timeline and the giver will keep everyone calm. The learning styles of Verbal-Linguistic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal can create a good working environment. The Verbal-Linquistic learner would......

...importance of teamwork in the workplace, some strategies for effective team communication, and strategies for effective team collaboration. All of these aspects are very important in being successful in the workplace. Who does not want to be successful? If you use these guidelines while at work you will be sure to succeed. Teamwork in the workplace is a very vital thing to use in your everyday work life. Teamwork is important for many reasons but I will tell you just a few. One reason teamwork is important is because you can be more productive. If you listen to everyone with an open mind and take consideration to everyone’s ideas then things will run a lot smoother for everyone involved. Take for instance unloading a freight truck at Walmart. If only one person were to try and do that it would seriously take forever. Instead, if a group of people work as a team, you can get a freight truck of 2000 pieces unloaded in less than 3 hours. Teamwork all in all makes for a better day at work. When everyone works together instead of against each other the day will go by much faster. Team communication is also very important in the workplace. If a team never spoke to one another do you really think anything would actually get done? Of course not. Being in a team means you must communicate. One strategy of team communication in the workplace is being direct and straightforward with one another. You cannot assume that your team members with understand everything. Be as clear cut......
