Challenge idea
My love for a clean environment has made me join several volunteering environmental cleanup programs as well as clubs pursuing the cause of a beautiful ecosystem. The motivation for maintaining the integrity and assuming the responsibility of taking leadership is the perfect reason that encourages me to get involved in community clean up. When I considered the challenge, the activity that came into my mind was to organize a 3-hour community clean up around our area. Through this activity, I would be able to interact with my community members directly and help the community realize the benefits that come along with a clean environment. A healthy environment does improve the physical neighborhood. Besides, it creates opportunities for individual investment, social fellowship and pride to the people in the neighborhood. It will not only create a nice place to dwell but also portrays a better landscape for professionals, prospective employers, and other community visitors by providing the best health benefits.
A clean-up process begins with proper organizing and planning of the program. I can only manage through identifying key stakeholders (through stakeholder identification process) to form my committee. The 3-hour process will involve organizational representatives, businesses, and individuals who I will invite including city representatives, the city council, and the local media. Since community improvement involves private and public property, I will check with the owners of these properties before implementing the exercise. The cleanup is to have carried with four teams each having a team leader with Beautification and Clean-Up Checklist. The goal is to have the community beautified, and prospective investors familiarize themselves with the area.
Implementation process
On April 12, 2016, the team leaders arrived at the agreed venue 30 minutes before the rest of the members arrived. Thus facilitating the distribution of equipment and tools that were required to facilitate the process. Those painting buildings having worn paint were provided with necessary materials while those that were tasked with cleaning the river and opening some drainage system assigned accordingly. All the materials had been voluntarily donated by the participating organizations and some businesses that had vested interest in investing in the community (Donovan 27). I led the team of painters and managed to paint three social halls in the community within three hours, as the rest of the team leaders successful led their members in accomplishing their duties. After 3 hours, all the teams assembled at one hall that was the central headquarter where they received water and some refreshment. All leaders did report success despite small occurrences of minor injuries that were handled through the first aid kit that each team had. It was interesting that community members turned out in large numbers including the elderly in the community who expressed smiles throughout the whole process. As people took time to interact, I could see them happy and satisfied through their constant laughter. One old man requested the community to carry similar activities every three months to allow them to engage and give back to the community.
Summary
There was a complete change in the appearance of the area. The area looked pleasant with the drainage system flowing smoothly and all the dustbin boxes labeled accordingly. I felt the sense of fulfillment and enrichment on realizing the impact I had created to my community. The cleanup program had enriched the neighborhood, and it had provided an opportunity for people interact and create new friends. I realized that a few hours of providing help would provide a lifetime change and opportunity, which is the benefit of being a volunteer.

...meeting established performance standards. Then appropriate system activities must be adjusted so that proper information products are produced for end users. For example, a manager may discover that subtotals of sales amounts in a sales report do not add up to total sales. This might mean that data entry or processing procedures need to be corrected. Then changes would have to be made to ensure that all sales transactions would be properly captured and processed by a sales information system. 50 Management Information Systems 2010/2011 Lecture … (5) The Challenge of Information Systems: Key Management Issues Although information technology is advancing at a blinding pace, there is nothing easy or mechanical about building and using information systems. There are five major challenges confronting managers: 1. The information systems investment challenge: It is obvious that one of the greatest challenges facing managers today is ensuring that their companies do indeed obtain meaningful returns on the money they spend on information systems. It’s one thing to use information technology to design, produce, deliver, and maintain new products. It’s another thing to make money doing it. How can organizations obtain a sizable payoff from their investment in information systems? How can management ensure that information systems contribute to corporate value? Senior management can be expected to ask these questions: How can we evaluate our information systems......

...Learning a language that is not your native one is a challenge. This challenge is doubled when you are learning it from a adviser who is also a non-native speaker of the language that you are trying to learn. The afore cited challenge comes from the fact that both the teacher and the student think in their native language, then mentally make translations of their thoughts and try to communicate to each other in a language which is alien to them. That language is English in this particular instance. On the other hand ,there is also that challenge of enhancing ones speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. Speaking is the skill or ability to communicate in English orally; listening is the skill or ability to process the information received; reading is the skill or ability to place and derive meaning from the printed page; writing is a skill of putting one's ideas on paper. Mastery or achieving facility in all the aforementioned aspect of the English language is challenging indeed. It requires practice. Lots and lots of practice. In addition, it also requires dedication and effort. One has to work hard to learn anything. The same is true in learning a second language. There are approaches or means of learning English as a second language. The first approach is by knowing that learning English or any second language, for that matter, consists more of the acquisition of a set of habits, rather than an intellectual mastery of the technical aspect of English......

...THE CHALLENGE For much of my teenage life, I was addicted to alcohol. Now I am a recovering addict who campaign for (S.A.D.D.), Students Against Drunk Drivers. I know i cant stop anyone from using alcohol, but I hope my story can sort of persuade them into a different direction, to show them a better way of life. No one in my peer group did that for me. I began drinking alcohol when I was 13 years old, trying it out of course. I grew up in the country side of a small town, called Earle. In the country, where I live, homenade moonshine and wine, was made. Mostly everyone, in the country, made homeade liquor. Being that everyone made liquor an sold it, allowed me to have easy access to it. I started out drinking the wine, but eventually I developed a liking, for the moonshine. By the age of 15, I was downing the moon shine every chance I could. I pretty much drank until I would black out. That didn’t stop me from drinking. However, I started a routine of drinking heavily every night, but I was able to keep my parents in the dark about it. I would make arrangements to stay at people houses, in order to avoid my parents. I knew if they found out about my drinking, it would be a big fuss. I always thought that drinking made me more sociable, but instead, it made me foolish and irresponsible. How I ended up in the hospital, was because I accidently shot myself in the foot. It is remarkable how unaware addiction catches you. It is......

...Summary According to the article “Analyze a Subject by Breaking it Down and Building it Back Up”, the author explains that analyzing is to break the subject into small, ideas or detailed parts, and where, by looking closely at those parts you identify the purpose or process of discovery to reach a conclusion of the situation. 2. Critical Thinker In my opinion a critical thinker is a multi-dimensional person involved in the process of analyzing, processing and evaluating information. It is also an attitude that shows the ability to explore, probe, ask and search out answers and solution. 3. “Space Invaders” The method does Stengel uses in his introduction to generate reader interest is narrative ( a short story or anecdote). Furthermore, when i was reading the introduction the author spark my curiosity to continue reading the text. It was interesting to me because this is the way that people live today. Its very common looking around, and detect many space invaders. For example, in elevators, people are wedging themselves in just before the doors close or on the street, pedestrains are zigzagging through the human traffic. In short, the phenomenon of invading personal space has become more serious in the current society and this space varies across individuals according to factors such as culture, age, and gender. 4. According to the author, I understand “personal space” as the area around a person which they prefer not be occupied by another person. It is......

...THE RESILIENCY CHALLENGE: CONSTRUCTING THE AGILE SUPPLY CHAIN FOR HEAVY INDUSTRY June 2014 By Lisa Harrington, President, lharrington group LLC and Associate Director, Supply Chain Management Center, Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland 2 The resiliency challenge The engineering and manufacturing sector (E&M) is the definition of diversity. The companies that make up the sector manufacture everything from jet engines and drilling rigs to simple fasteners and filters. Broadly speaking, though, E&M firms fall into a number of sub-sectors including Aerospace and Aviation and Industrial and Construction Equipment. The overall sector, like all industries, faces a myriad of issues around volatility, including dealing with natural disasters and supplier disruptions. But these issues aren’t the only ones that keep sector executives up at night. E&M CEOs also worry about how to transform their frequently large and conservative companies into agile enterprises capable of meeting new competition and opportunity head on with faster, leaner and more resilient operations. Global market dynamics are driving the need for transformation. As emerging markets grow and new markets emerge, demand is dispersing geographically. Demand is also fragmenting as a result of increasingly complex requirements from customers both for new product customization and post-sale support and service. Customers want – and expect – more choice......

...determined whether someone had qualified for promotion to either Lieutenant or captain positions. The results of these tests showed that the white candidates performed better than the other minority candidates’ i.e. the blacks. This outcome sparked uproar among black candidates and local politicians who issued threats to the City. The city then discarded the results based on racial discrepancy. The white and Hispanic candidates, who had passed the exams but were not promoted, thereafter sued the City officials for throwing away the results basing their action as discrimination against their race according to Title VII of Civil Rights Act (1964). This racial discrimination case brought by the Hispanic and White firefighters was used by Ricci to challenge the decision reached by New Heaven’s city officials to use examination results to offer promotion to the firefighters. The much disputed examinations had the following procedures. The City’s rules for firefighters promotion was divided in to either the merit system or the firefighters union’s agreement. The merit system required the vacancy position be filled by one of the top three candidates who passed the examinations. The Union’s agreement required the tests to be both written and oral, with 40% of the score related to oral test and 60% on the written test. ...Date: March 14, 2015 Subject: ACL versus IDEA When comparing ACL and IDEA it was hard to choose which was clearly better because they perform such similar tasks. While we think both would be effective at identifying fraud there were a few reasons why we decided that IDEA was the better software. First, ACL simply was not designed as well as IDEA in our eyes. The team member who was assigned to the ACL tutorial had to re-install the program multiple times to “fix” simple errors that should have never arose to begin with. To add to that, it was not very user friendly in general which made it difficult to navigate and look at. ACL was, however, easy to import into Excel due to its inherent similarities with it. On the other hand, the team member who worked with IDEA found the software extremely easy to learn, use and remember and did not run into any problems due to design flaws. It was very easy to import and export from Excel with very simple and easy applications. There was a way to manipulate the data whichever way needed and by the end of the tutorial the team member felt that they were very knowledgeable on the software and felt confident in using it. Although more expensive, we feel it is much more effective and an overall better program. IDEA Tutorial 1. ...believe it could save lives. Even if just one person was to report the bullying, and that ‘bully’ would have someone that was there just to listen, this would change so many lives! I realize that the idea of a “perfect world” is unimaginable because humans are imperfect beings, but if people could learn to talk things through instead of spreading gossip or bullying; I do believe that we would be better off emotionally and physically and the world, in my opinion, would be a much more peaceful, happier place. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.” I believe he is the perfect model of this statement. He was a greatly influential during the Civil Right movement. He knew what he believed and was never ashamed of it. I don’t think there was ever a time when anyone questioned whether Dr. King lived what he believed. I mean he was trying to obtain his goal without violence; wouldn’t that be nice in today’s society? There were many people that opposed his movement and ideas but you didn’t see him walk up to them and cuss them out or threaten them. He used words but not to tear others down. He never let the discouraging words or any other challenges he faced make him quit. Everything he went through only made him stronger which is why his legacy lives on to this day. I’m sure we’ve all gone through our own struggles. Do you think you......
