Write a reflective report on the impact of social media and mobile communication in your daily life. How should an organization manage its information systems to meet the demand of your generation?

Executive Summary

Social media and mobile communication both are becoming interrelated and major way of communication. The assignment contains exploration of these two major ways of communication based on personal reflection and possible ways to manage information system more effectively and efficiently in the favor of young generation. The study consisted based on analysis, execution of real life portrays and additional relevant information collected from the internet. Given suggestions on the eyes of user are included with pertinent points for better understanding so, separate recommendations are not included in the method. Focused point are, strong moderating and authentication system, age restriction for underage children, customization and target based information flow, innovative web-based customers account for mobile information system. Finally, the conclusion states that organization should put importance on the information flow, how user is trying to use it and what can be done to facilitate them.

Without any doubt the impact of social media as well as mobile communication has a huge impact in life. For social communication, to check important news and events, job vacancies; media such as Facebook, Linkedin, Google Plus etcetera are very helpful. Without mobile, a day is unimaginable. Now mobile communication is not restricted in just calls and text messages; use of social media through mobile internet, watching mobile television on the go, buying train ticket, to pay bills, ‘Bikash’ for urgent money transaction or to buy things from the online based shops and for many other value added services which are considered a part of modern mobile communication system nowadays. Even though, Impact is not bounded only in benefits sometime, it hampers study, create misunderstanding between friends, reason for cyber crime and social harassment and the paramount issue is addiction toward Facebook. More than 60% of online users actively maintain a Facebook profile daily and 40% use mobile phone to use social networking.
2. Findings
From user perspective, there are many obvious need and wants. After analyzing intensively several important things are emerged.
2.1 Moderation and Authentication System
Strong moderating and authentication system should be employed to social media information system. Specially now, there so many are downgrade news portals, pages have seen on social medias which share serious repugnant news and articles. So, social media should have local moderating facility so that pages, news portals can be monitored. Furthermore, there should be proper authentication system so that fake and duplicate account cannot be created and existing account can be verified. It can be done by face recognition system using user camera mobile, mobile verification code. It will also help the information management system as duplicate, unnecessary accounts and pages can be obliterated. In addition, profile hacking tendency, harassment and misunderstanding can be reduced.
2.2 Age Restriction for Underage Children
Shared contents in social medias is needed to be restricted at some point. Now facebook is available to children from thirteen years of age, ergo there should be an option to select age limit or restriction for underage before posting something, same goes for pages contains mature contents. Moreover, while posting news reports regarding on war, murder, violence this age restriction option can be used.
2.3 Customization and Target Based Information Flow
Social media should be customizable to cope with all types of user. By the division of profession, social media organization can manage their information system; make it more target based information flow. Illustration- present generation businessman are internet savvy so there can be customizable profile with added options for sending business meeting invitations, checking what business leaders are sharing publicly, to see stocks charts and other breaking news. A students profile can be customized in a way that knowledge based articles, news get the priority in their news feeds. It is actually a more targeted and refined version of profile layout which will facilitate different types of user. BD- News24 share many sort of news, if there is an option to select which type of news or post it belongs to, I.e. business related, political related, science related or combination of them, and then who is a businessman, in his news feed, business related news from BD news24 will get the priority. There can be another option added to official group of any institution where its belonging peoples’ accounts are connected, like BRAC university students to official BBS group. Option is to get the attention of all group members immediately at once while posting something very important. Student also will get highlighted starred notification that something important is posted on the group. Thus they will not have to constantly check official group for important announcement.

2.4 Innovative Web-based Customer Account
Nowadays mobile communication system is going under extreme competition among rivals. So, instead of controlling their information management system for the optimum benefits of their users, they sometimes randomly are using their resources aggressively to compete in the market. Randomly sending calls for purchasing caller tune, latest Bollywood song to download or annoying continuously sending internet package promotions are not effective enough. Fact is, not everyone wants the same thing. They can create web-based based account for customers where all the details on value added services will be described and customers can give their basic information, choose options regarding preferred packages, plans, what kind of value added service they want the most. From these profiles they can collect necessary data and information which can be used for further analysis and through programming, automatically computer will be able to send preferred service to the right person. Mobile company will be also able to take important decision from the analysis and statistical data. Also, memorizing code for value added service and sending message to activate or de-activate feels annoying, rather on website, it can be chosen easily just by few clicks; matter of fact this generation is highly exposed to internet evolution. This way not only customer relationship will be stronger but also they will be able to provide services which their customer really want. Thus, it will reduce cost of randomly sent text messages, calls, and advertisements as well as time.
2.5 Conclusion
There is no deny the importance of information flow in an organization and it should be handled correctly.
