The Importance of Writing Well Possibly the greatest form of interaction with one another is communication. People communicate with each other daily whether it is face to face conversation, facial expressions and body language, or even more so now, electronically and through social media. All are sufficient ways for conveying messages, but certain ideas require an extra intellectual measure. Through precise composition and structure, writing can successfully communicate an individual’s objective. Although writing is a fascinating and important form of communication, an individual must know how to write well in order to creatively and effectively convey information, ideas, and stories. Writing can either make or break a presentation of ideas. Disregarding the topic of a work, a writer’s style has a heavy influence on the audience. A well written article, review, or story can not only entertain and amuse, but persuade or enlighten readers. On the other hand, a poorly written article can leave a negative response to readers, even if the subject is one of importance or prominence. Regarding academic purposes, there are countless reasons to have a foundation of exceptional writing skills beyond just the classroom. It is important to have respectable writing skills while filling out job applications, resumes, official documents, and proper letters. Proper writing techniques can even set an individual apart from others and give an advantage in the work field. Not only does writing serve as a means of communication, but it offers a unique level of intellectual interaction that personal conversations do not always have. Carefully structured diction and syntax promises the attention of readers. Once achieved, the skill of writing can assist in many successes; passing English class just being one of…...

...managers acting as punishers to become disliked for their disciplinary actions; and it could happen that people who are punished may be unclear about what specific part of their behavior is being punished. EXTINCTION is the withholding of significant positive consequence that was previously provided for a desirable behavior. Such desirable learned behavior need to be reinforced to encourage the person to repeat the action in the future. If no reinforcement by the mangers, the employee, or anyone else occurs, the behavior tends to diminish (become extinguished) through lack of reinforcement. SCHEDULE OF REINFORCEMENT Before various types of consequence can be applied, managers should monitor employee behavior to learn how often, or hoe well, employees are performing. The frequency of the behavior creates a baseline, or standard, against which improvements can be compared. Then the managers can select a reinforcement schedule, which is the frequency with which the chosen consequence accompanied a desired behavior. Reinforcement may be either continuous or partial. Continuous reinforcement occurs when a reinforce accompanies each correct behavior by an employee. In some instance, this level of reinforcement may be desirable to encourage quick learning, but in the typical work situation it usually is not possible to reward even one employees for every correct behavior, much less several employees. PARTIAL REINFORCEMENT occurs when only some of the correct behaviors......

Importance of Writing

...The Importance of Writing Writing can easily be classified as one’s freedom to express themselves clearly and confidently. In society, the use of script to define a subject or a though is used on a daily basis. It is utilized in offices, schools, newspapers, even technology these days. Writing comes of great importance to the world for it is our way of communication when words can’t get the job done. Writing is more permanent than words. That being said, one has more time to gather their thoughts and present them in a clear and orderly fashion. Because of the various types of writing there are, one has to thoroughly ponder on how they want their thoughts presented. Alongside this, the audience of whom the writing will be presented to also needs to be considered. It would be completely inappropriate to write a letter in the form of a poem to get a point across congress and vice versa. No matter how well one writes, the genre and style of the writing is always more important. Anyone is capable of writing, but not all are great writers. A true writer composes from the heart with aid from their mind. Every word is processed and handled in such a way that it pinpoints exactly what idea they are trying to present to the reader. Some writings are easier to comprehend than others, and depending on whether it is an open or closed form decides on whether the simplicity of this writing is a good or a bad thing. We use writing as form of art. When one who truly knows how to......

Writing

...The writing process begins the minute you get a writing assignment—whether you are writing a book, an essay, or a single paragraph. It involves all the activities you do, from choosing a topic to turning in a final draft. The phases, or stages, of the writing process are prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. Prewriting Prewriting refers to all activities that help you explore a subject, generate ideas about it, choose a specific topic, establish a purpose, and analyze the audience for your paragraph or essay. Your mission at this stage is to stimulate your thinking before and during the act of writing. Every time you think of a new idea during the writing process, you are prewriting. Drafting When you have lots of ideas to work with, you are ready to start drafting. Drafting involves writing down your thoughts, developing or expanding some ideas, organizing your thoughts to reflect your purpose, and writing a first version of your paragraph or essay. To start on your draft, you may want to spread out your class notes, journal entries, and other prewriting notes so that you can start to string your ideas together. This is the time to keep your thoughts flowing without worrying too much about grammar, punctuation, mechanics, or spelling. Revising As you may suspect, the process of writing is not finished with your first draft. You should always revise your work to make it stronger and better. Revising involves rethinking your content and organization so that your......

...UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE STUDIES MPA 713 – STRATEGIC PLANNING & MANAGEMENT IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR TERM PAPER Discuss the relationship between strategic planning and strategic management as well as indicate the importance of the latter in the attainment of organizational goals. KEALEBOGA R. MOOKETSI 200301911 Introduction This paper intends to discuss the relationship between strategic planning and strategic management as well to indicate the importance of the latter in the attainment of organizational goals. . In order to lay a proper foundation for the essay, it is important to start by looking at the concept of strategy and linking it to planning and management. Defining Strategy A strategy is a plan of action designed to achieve a specific goal. Strategy is all about gaining (or being prepared to gain) an advantage over adversaries or best exploiting emerging possibilities. According to Jeffrey Pfeffer (1997:4), a strategy is a method or plan chosen to bring about a desired future, such as achievement of a goal or solution to a problem. It can also be defined as the art and science of planning and marshaling resources for their most efficient and effective use. Kvint, Vladimir (2009, pg. 67), defines strategy as “a pattern in a stream of decisions" to contrast with a view of strategy as planning’’ while Max McKeown (2011, pg. 342) argues that "strategy is about shaping the future" and is the human attempt to get to......

On Writing

...Ashley Eller December 12, 2011 UCWR110-022 Final Reflective Essay On Writing My favorite author and literary genius, Stephen King, in his memoir On Writing wrote, “Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open.” This is possibly the best piece of advice I could ever think to give to a struggling student with a paper to write. Your first draft is always for yourself and your own personal reflection. In your second draft, “open up the doors” and write for everyone else who will be reading it. Without this solid piece of advice, I don’t think I could have ever expanded on my writing at all. Over the years, my writing career has hit its peak in junior year, and I have plateaued from there. Since being a UCWR student, I have had the chance to expand my range in my writing skills. From this course, I have learned to expand my writing ability to subjects I would never have broached before, allowing myself to heighten my awareness of the world around me as well as hinder my procrastination. In the beginning of the year, I was very disappointed I would have to take this course. From my previous experience with accelerated English and rhetoric courses, I felt I would be bored and disappointed with the classroom experience. Over the course of the semester, I have learned I was wrong. While in the beginning my engagement level was poor, I was still interested by the current events brought up in class. Some of the biggest topics we discussed (Occupy Wallstreet, Penn State...

Writing

...drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges.” I agree with Mr. Hemingway. Writing can be easy and enjoyable, or it can be difficult and frustrating. There are times when everything comes together and flows effortlessly and, more often than I would like to admit, there are times when I could pull my hair trying to squeeze out an idea of what to write. Regardless of the headache writing can sometimes be, I am absolutely in love with it. I was not always in love with writing. I was capable of getting assignments like essays, short stories, and poems completed, but not necessarily enjoying the process it took to get there. Everything changed when I took a writing workshop as an elective class in high school. In all honesty, I took the class because I felt as though I was a good enough writer to do well and not have much to worry about. I realized something important in that class, that “good enough” would not be good enough for me anymore. I can remember the exact moment I fell in love with the process of writing. I had an assignment to write a short story, which seemed easy enough. I wrote a quick rough draft about the importance of not drinking and driving. My writing process had always been to write a rough draft that was not very well thought out, to edit a small amount and not much else. I found myself spending more time on that story than I had ever spent on any other piece of writing. I kept editing and changing things until the end result only held a small......

...about the sub-surface; -Allowing injection of fluids; -Exploiting geothermal resources; -Disposing Waste (nuclear waste); -Drilling training/research wells. There are six basic reasons for drilling a well. 1. Information from sub surface is required. This may be to identify hydrocarbon reservoirs, coal seams or other mineral deposits. 2. Allow fluids to be produced from within the Earth. Hydrocarbons are a valuable resource but wells are also drilled for water in arid areas. 3. Allow fluids to be injected underground. Within an oil reservoir, it is sometimes necessary to pump in water to maintain reservoir pressure as oil is produced. 4. Where high downhole temperatures are present at reasonably shallow depths, water can be pumped in to the well to generate steam. The steam drives a turbine to generate electricity. 5. In geologically stable areas, wells may be drilled to dispose of nuclear waste which requires long term safe isolation. 6. Wells may be drilled for training. These wells allow students to practice tripping pipe or casing. Some include a facility to inject fluids at the bottom of the well to simulate a kick. Objectives of Drilling Operations -Minimize the total well cost (i.e. maximize return on investment) -Drill a useable hole (minimize formation damage) -Drill well in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Autobiographical Nature in the Writings of Five Well Known Poets

... In all of their writings they have an autobiographical nature that tells the reader about the authors own life. Without the aspects of these authors’ lives their writing could differ. This aspect of revealing ones own life through writing can be seen in Robert Frost’s poems not because he portrays his own life, but quite the opposite. It is commonly known that Robert Frost life was filled with much depression. Because of this, Robert Frost tends to dwell on the surreal beauty of nature in life. It is seen in his poems such as “The Pasture” that Robert Frost puts what has fulfilled his life in his writing. Like these other authors, Robinson Jeffers also involves his life in his poetry. Throughout his life Jeffers religious intent shows him to be a pantheist whose God is the evolving universe. In his poem “Credo” he talks about how nothing is real except but what we make it. The idea that God is in our minds, and he creates the images that makes things real. The religious background of his life affected him to write the poems of the permanence of God. Similar to Jeffers deep appreciate of God, Mary E. Wilkins Freeman has a profound value for the culture of rural New England. In her story “The New England Nun” she explores a women’s enjoyment in her life, which gave them control over their lives. The woman shows strength and endurance in the story. Rural New England also possessed this in their culture and economy. Her reflective importance for the culture......

...Understanding Graduate-Level Writing September 14, 2015 Understanding Graduate-Level Writing To understand graduate-level writing, you must look at the characteristics that make this type of writing different from other types of writing. One of these characteristics is to communicate a specific idea or intended message that is precise and elegantly worded, so the reader will not misunderstand (Beins & Beins, 2012, p. 3). Being misunderstood in any type of writing can be one of the biggest factors in how credible you are and if the message you are conveying will have the impact that is intended to make. As a graduate level writer, your technical vocabulary and phrases will play a vital role for difficult or intricate ideas, which should be conveyed in a short and concise manner (Beins & Beins, 2012, para. 9). That being said graduate-level writing generally follows a specific format that can be understood universally (Beins & Beins, 2012, p. 3). This specific and technical format displays one of the differences between the other forms of writing. Other styles of writing that are less formal usually accommodate the content as well as the artistic style of the text (Beins & Beins, 2012, p. 3). Taking the artistic less formal route for writing will allow the reader to understand the message in a less confusing method for virtually any level of understanding. The technical jargon that graduate-level writings entail seem to be one of the important distinctions...
