The Interrupters
The thought of watching an almost two hour documentary seems rather boring, but that is the opposite emotion I received while watching “The Interrupters”. Every second was engaging, and every story brought emotion to my heart. It’s one thing to hear about gangs in communities, but actually seeing things they do is another. Gangs are not something anyone should be apart of, and it’s terrible to see how many adults and teenagers, just like myself, are devoting their lives to violence and horror.
The Interrupters tells the moving and surprising stories of three Violence Interrupters who try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they were once apart of. Shot over the course of a year, The Interrupters captures a period in Chicago when it became a nation symbol for the violence in our cities. During this period, the city was overwhelmed with numerous shootings, fights and even deaths.
There were three specific incidents in the documentary that stood out to me. Tio Hardimar, creator and director of the Violence Interrupters program, mentioned how when he was 14 years old, this boy beat him up; then his stepfather walked outside and killed that young boy right in front of Tio’s eyes. Tio stated, “I felt good about it, really.” Violence is the answer to every problem. That’s how all those kids were raised, and that’s all they knew. It is disturbing to see how violent these communities are, and how no one cares. Another incident that occurred was when Ameena Matthews, a Violence Interrupter, took Caprysha Anderson, an 18-year-old girl, out for a day and really learned her story. Caprysha had been in more than 15 homes, and basically raised herself and her sisters while her mom was out doing whatever it was that she did. While she was getting her nails done, the worker asked Caprysha where had all the violence got her; Caprysha responded, “No where”. Seeing how one person went from fighting every day to someone who realized violence…...

...There are some teachers who are going to require you to write a 250 word essay. Actually, it is a very short essay for that matter but for some students, it may also be a burden to have a word limit in writing. Let us take a look at the scenarios that you need to understand to compose a well developed essay. For some students, it may be limiting to have a word factor quota in writing an article. There are some individuals who can tell more out of a topic and that having 250 words will not suffice to tell everything in their minds. That is why you need to have the skills in budgeting the words that you have to write without sacrificing the ideas that you have to deliver. There are different essay types that you also need to consider so having a word limit cannot simply be an easy task. Still for some students, a 250 word essay may mean too much because there are also some people who do not want to waste their time writing. No matter what the essay structure may be, these types of people are not really eager to translate their thoughts to written form so they think 250 words simply equates to too much work. Anyway, you need to understand that having this kind of limit will eventually benefit the students as they improve their discipline, being responsible and being resourceful individuals. We can offer you to buy essays from us so you do not have to worry about the number of words in writing. Let our writers make your life easier today...

...An essay is usually a short piece of writing. It is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can be literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essays (e.g. Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism and An Essay on Man). While brevity usually defines an essay, voluminous works like John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Thomas Malthus's An Essay on the Principle of Population provide counterexamples. It is very difficult to define the genre into which essays fall. Aldous Huxley, a leading essayist, gives guidance on the subject: Like the novel, the essay is a literary Abstract This article will examine the reasons why it is important both linguistically and psychologically to build a vocabulary quickly when learning a foreign language. The article asserts that very little can be achieved or learned in a foreign language with a small vocabulary and that by building a sizable vocabulary quite quickly one can soon be able to function adequately. You may also wish to look at http://www.jalt-publications.org/tlt/files/95/feb/meara.html Introduction It is obvious that in order to learn a foreign language one needs to learn many many words. The Interrupters Essay

...The Violence Interrupters The film “The Interrupters” by Steve James and Alex Kotlowitz is based on a group of individuals that are part of Ceasefire, a Chicago anti-violence program. Gary Slutkin, the founder of Ceasefire, believes that the spread of violence is very similar to the spread of disease, and so he believes that the treatment should be analogous. In order to stop the infection, one must go after the most infected, the source. The main goal of the violence interrupters is to simply stop killings and to save as many lives as possible. They make it very clear that they are not trying to dismantle gangs. The violence interrupters are made up of individuals who have had many years of jail time in the past, but now want to make a positive difference in their community rather than continue with their lives of crime. The interrupters use their own personal histories to intervene in conflicts before they go too far and turn into violent encounters. The Violence Interrupters Challenge the problems with the program: One of the main problems with the film is that “The Interrupters” are staged on the front lines in their fight to save lives in their communities. This fight is near to impossible to win because although they all put forth their best efforts and put their heart and soul into every individual they try to help, the problem cannot actually be solved, as it exists on a much larger scale. Although the film shows “The Interrupters” doing their best to make...

Communicable Disease Essay

...Communicable Disease Essay Shawna Bolin HCS/457 June 22, 2015 University of Phoenix Communicable Disease Essay Every day we walk around amongst thousands of people, many of whom we will never meet personally but in the same sense can share something unseen. Every time we leave our homes we put ourselves at risk for catching the unknown. It could be as little as catching a cold to catching something more severe such as HIV/AIDS. Every time there is a fluid exchange, contaminated substance or close contact from traveling there is a risk of catching a communicable disease. According to the CDC, more than 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV infection and almost 1 in 7 are unaware of their infection (CDC, 2015). What is it? Hearing the term HIV/AIDS can sound a little confusing and scary. Understanding what it is will not only help you understand the difference between HIV and AIDS but it will also help you learn how to prevent it. Although it can be easy to confuse the two it is actually pretty simple. HIV is a virus and particular exposure to it can lead to infection and AIDS is a condition or a syndrome that can be caused by having HIV (healthline, 2015). Understanding how to control and prevent HIV/AIDS is pretty easy. HIV can be spread through blood, semen, pre-seminal fluids, rectal fluids, vaginal fluids and using a contaminated needle. HIV can even be passed to a child during pregnancy, childbirth and even......

Violence Interrupters, Credible Experts?

...Violence Interrupters, Credible Experts? Violence Interrupters, Credible Experts? Joel Nguyen York University Violence Interrupters, Credible Experts? The Violence Interrupters are cited to have a goal in mind and that is they’re trying to save lives (The Interrupters, 2011). Violence Interrupters take the initiative in interceding before, while, or after an event of violence in order to stem violent behaviour. However, the question lies if these interrupters can be considered credible sources and experts. The documentary “The Interrupters” shows how they constantly impede upon their own purpose by engaging in uncritical arguments and reasoning. In particular, some of their offenses include arguing with the fallacy of hasty generalization, not fulfilling the criteria to be viewed as a credible expert, and becoming extremely biased in their decision-making. These are all important to take into consideration as they are contrary to the process of a logical and rational inquiry. By critically evaluating the documentary “The Interrupters”, we can come to a reasoned judgment whether or not the people or the arguments proposed were logical, coherent, and within the spirit of inquiry. It is their so-called duty as Violence Interrupters to mediate and mentor and with such a high degree of trust and responsibility, they should be held to the utmost. This means being able to critically present sound arguments and to evaluate themselves to such a degree so as to eliminate all...
