There are many things I wish to accomplish while I am in AP English. Among them the three that stand out the most are: getting a good grade, learning enough to pass the AP exam, and improving my writing capabilities.
My first and probably foremost goal for this class is to achieve a good grade. To many people getting a good grade is an obvious goal when taking an AP class because there is no point in taking an AP class if you cannot get a good grade on it. While this is an obvious goal it is not an easy one. I know, I procrastinate and I usually forget to do homework and other forms of assignments. However, I will try my best this year to get a good grade in this class and all my other classes as well.
My next goal is also one that many people would probably choose as well, learning enough to pass the AP exam. This is a very important goal as well. If I pass the AP exam I will not have to waste time and money in college because I have already passed the AP exam. However, this will also not be a simple achievement. An AP exam is quite difficult and I will have to learn many things to pass with a 3 or higher. My reading comprehension is very high and I am quite proud of it, however my writing capabilities and grammar sense are very lacking. I feel if I try hard, I will be able to overcome my weakness and get a good score on the AP exam.
My last goal is to improve my writing capabilities. As I have stated earlier, my ability to write is very bad. It is severely lacking and I am having trouble even writing this essay. I usually tend to go off topic, write a non-cohesive essay, or use poor grammar. I am sure, however, now that I am taking AP English and AP US History where I will write many essays over the year my ability to quickly and efficiently write a good quality essay will increase. Until then I will try my hardest and give it my all.

...These Things I’ve Learned…. If you really stop to watch….stop to listen and take in the moment, you realize how fast the world is moving around you. You also realize that you have missed a million moments by (personally) moving--just as fast as that world. The writers both intertwine rhetorical appeals and opposing diction to make their pointsIn his proposition, Ira Herbert pleads the Grove Press to stop using Coca-Cola’s slogan “It’s the Real Thing.” Herbert uses calm, warm diction in hopes of getting Seaver to stop using the aforementioned slogan. Through Herbert’s use of such words as “appreciate” and “cooperation,” he anticipates that Seaver will discontinue using the slogan. In a report from the Entertainment Software Association the World of Warcraft’s release of “Cataclysm” was among the top five game titles sold in 2011 with an estimated of eight million players immersing themselves in the WoW virtual world in 2013 (Kuss 2013). These MMORPG’s have a broad appeal to players through several different aspects of the games. The player can concentrate on achieving in game goals, developing social contacts through joining a Guild, and immersing themselves in this new world that has been created for them. The games start out with easy tasks to accomplish in order to advance quickly through the lower levels. Through this procession the player gains more abilities and powers that can be used for their character in the game. ...As the child of two immigrants, I grew up in a bilingual household. My native language was Bengali and my second language was English. Growing up, my parents tried speaking both at home, but I had a difficult time learning English. During elementary school, I became poised in battle with reading; reading became my daily, haunting nightmare. I struggled so greatly with reading that I was eventually placed in a English Second Language (ESL) class. I was determined to pass the ESL exam and move on, but to my dismay, I stayed in ESL for the next six years. I became increasingly frustrated at my inability to understand what I was reading. As I flipped through pages and observed the bold words, I tried my best to break up sentences and create little images in my head. I did not find reading enjoyable at all.. I wanted to become a better reader and pass the ESL exam, so that I could fit in with my peers. But year after year, I drowned in my own sorrow of failing and staying in ESL. Not only did I begin to feel isolated from many of my peers, but also from my family--especially my sister, who was two years older than me. Though my sister was initially placed in ESL, she passed the exam and moved on within her first year of being in that class. She was a great writer and reader; by second grade, she was reading at the highest level in her class. She was doing so well that I began to I ask myself, why couldn’t I? In “The Cross of Snow” incorporates symbolism in the title. The “cross” is a symbolic meaning before Christians because Jesus died on the cross and “snow” is white which represents purity. Longfellow essentially says that his wife is angelic and pure. Both poets incorporated imagery to means to use figurative language to represent objects, actions and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses. In Rossetti’s poem, she includes diction such as, “silent” (line 2), and “darkness” (line 11) and “corruption” (line 12) to create a visual and emotional appeal to death. Death is commonly perceived as eerie, unpleasant, and deplorable; no one wants their beloved to go through death or let alone, feel death through their grieving process. In Longfellow’s poem, imagery is applied to create a religious visual. He included, “A…face…/ looks at me from the wall, where round its head/ the night-lamp casts a halo of pale light” (lines 1-4). The diction used, “halo” and “light” (line 4), are widely held visuals of angels. An angel is pure, bright, and serene. The halo “pale light” (line 4) accurately tells the reader that it is not an obnoxious light rather, it is a tolerable light.
