1. What is IT infrastructure and what are its components?

Define IT infrastructure from both a technology and a services perspective.

• Technical perspective is defined as the shared technology resources that provide the platform for the firm’s specific information system applications. It consists of a set of physical devices and software applications that are required to operate the entire enterprise. • Service perspective is defined as providing the foundation for serving customers, working with vendors, and managing internal firm business processes. In this sense, IT infrastructure focuses on the services provided by all the hardware and software. IT infrastructure is a set of firm-wide services budgeted by management and comprising both human and technical capabilities.

List and describe the components of IT infrastructure that firms need to manage.

Students may wish to use Figure 5-10 to answer the question. ...achievements have been due in large part to the ability of the governments of Poland and the Czech Republic to marshal their available resources in effective ways in addressing their environmental problems as well as in their commitment for “cleaning up their act”. In this regard, Carter and Turnock (2002) emphasize that: “These countries also have shown a superior capacity for handling their problems, reflecting their ability to identify and resolve environmental problems on the basis of technology and financial resources but also legislation and enforcement regimes plus a political culture with institutions to ensure that issues are raised, alternative solutions discussed and with cooperation forthcoming in respect of agreed strategies.” (p. 6) Moreover, the Czech Republic and Poland are capable of producing tools and equipment for controlling pollution in ways that have contributed to their full integration into the EU (Carter and Turnock 2002). 5 Clearly, then, the driving forces for Poland and the Czech Republic to improve their environmental standards and ensure transition from centrally-planned to market-based economies arose due to a number of factors, including the overriding need to reduce the adverse impact of these environmental degradations on the health of their citizenry. There were other compelling forces at work, though, that made the improvement of these countries’ environmental standards a high priority as well. For example, Madeo ( 1995) emphasizes......

Week 6 Comm101 Tutorial

...Week6 Comm101 Tutorial Assignment 1. According to Kantian theory, was Alan Turing’s action to ‘play God’ so that ‘Britain can win the war and more lives are saved in the long run’ ethical? Why? Justify using three key principles of Kantian theory. I believe that Alan Turing’s actions were not ethical. I support my statement by the help of three key principles of Kantian theory. Firstly, goodwill is an important factor in most decision making process. Kantian implies that if an action or decision creates goodwill then it should be carried on otherwise it must be rejected. Similarly, in the case of Alan Turing’s situation, his actions did create goodwill for the country but at same time they harmed a lot of people who were going to die in the passenger convoy. Therefore his actions definitely did not create goodwill in all aspects. Similarly, the second key principle of Kantian’s theory suggests that you cannot harm any body while making ethical decision. The decisions made should fulfill the requirements of categorical imperative. Clearly as Alan’s decision harmed many people in short run but there is no clear data and statistics of having saved large number of lives in long run as implied by Alan. Lastly, our decisions must always be universally accepted to identify if they are ethical. In the case of Alan Turing, his actions were not universally accepted, especially not by families that lost their members. Many lives could have been saved in the passenger convoy......
