The Korean Management

...THE KOREAN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Cultural, Political, Economic Foundations Chan Sup Chang and Nahn Joo Chang Q Quorum Books Westport, Connecticut London Preface We approached the Korean management system from a cultural context. Although they share a common Oriental culture with other neighboring nations, Koreans maintain a unique culture. This culture, combined with the impact of the geopolitical environment of the Korean peninsula, results in a unique behavioral pattern. Thus, managers and workers in the Korean management system behave differently from their counterparts in other countries. The Koreans have accomplished remarkable economic success since the 1960s, and their management system has played a major role in contributing to this phenomenal economic achievement. Entrepreneurs, top executives, managers, and workers in the management system are all integral parts of the system, and they have performed their assigned jobs effectively. Therefore, to comprehend the unique nature of this Korean management system, we performed an in-depth analysis on its performance. The external environment of the Korean management system is a crucial factor in understanding it. In this kind of environment, the role of government is prominent because without active support from the government, no enterprise can survive and prosper. The government, in return, demands some favors from these enterprises, making this a quid pro quo, a unique feature of the Korean management system. We......

...KSA KSA means “Korean Student Association” which contains all Korean students in Baton Rouge. It is organization to promote unity and helping of Korean students and Korean community. KSA is committed to inform and to help prospective students for smooth adjustment to new academic and cultural environment on campus. In addition, KSA represents Korean organization and publicizes its existence and activities to local and international organization. One of most important elements of KSA that allows it to bond is communication. The fact that the person is from South Korea does not mean that he or she is openly invited to join group. The KSA requires personal or private invitations. The new or prospective students need to be invited by the current members. They also need to attend the Mass Meeting in Korea or on campus to sign up as a member, get a group T-shirt, and a membership card. Even if everyone, including non-KSA members, may attend the events and activities, the invitations are sent out privately through E-mail by the president of group only to current members. Thus, the outside people need to be informed by the members or join the group to be the members. However, states oppositely that anyone even the people from outside of the group are welcomed to engage in joint activities and events without private invitations or limitations. KSA is helped not only Korean students but also Korean community. KSA gather in Baton Rouge to share opinions socially without......

...Final Paper Beginners The movie Beginners, released in 2010, based on the experiences that Mike Mills, who wrote the script and directed the movie, went through after his mother died. The story builds around the main character, Oliver, who just one week ago had to bare with the death of his mother who had died due to a cancerous brain tumor. Now, one week after his mother has died, Oliver’s father sits across from him and tells Oliver that throughout the many years of his parent’s marriage, his father has secretly been gay. Oliver’s father, Hal, has been living in secrecy for the entirety of his life, because homosexuality was not socially accepted when he was younger and later his marriage prevented him from being free. Hal, now that he is unbound, tells Oliver “I don’t want to be just theoretically gay, I want to do something about it” (Beginners, 2010). Confronted with this Oliver reflects on his life growing up with two parents that never seemed to be the way he thought they should have. Writer and director Mike Mills experienced precisely this, when his father, shortly after his mother died because of brain cancer in 1999, opened up to him about being gay throughout his entire life. At this point, Mills’ father was at the age of 75 years and had been married to his wife for 45 years. Five years later, his father died due to cancer of the lungs. Mills wanted to share this story with the world, because he was so baffled by the adventure that he had lived through,......
