Q: What do you understand about the Amazon Tribes and the issues it faces?
From this extract, we understand several things about the Amazon Tribes and the issues it faces. Firstly, we discover that the tribe is ‘isolated.’ The word ‘isolated’ implies that the tribe has no contact with the outside world. In the next paragraph, we learn that the tribes are also self-sufficient as they are able to grow their own crops for food such as ‘maize, sweet potato, pumpkins, bananas and peanuts.’ This implies that despite the lack of resources these people were provided in the Amazon Rainforest, they have the skills to be able to craft their own supplies such as food in order to survive.
In addition, we also learn that, like any other societies in the world, the Amazon tribe has their own unique culture. We learn that the men of the tribes wear ‘cotton waistbands and some have headdresses.’ Not only does this show that these tribes have their own unique traditions as previously mentioned, but it can also indicate that there are different hierarchy levels in the tribe. We get the impression that the ones that wear ‘headdresses’ are the chief or main leader of the tribe and the others are just normal members of the tribe. Similarly in the English society, our queen wears the crown to symbolize her status.
Furthermore, one of the issues faced by the Amazon tribe is the fact that there is a chance of the tribe being captured again. This is because many tribes like this have moved to the Amazon River due to ‘a rubber production boom which enslaved many Indians.’ This immediately gives the reader a sense of fear as they wouldn’t know what would happen to this tribe. Nevertheless, it also shows that the tribe were very crafty and cunning as they’ve also have the skill to escape the Indians. We also learn the tribe are ‘decorated with red dye and armed with bows and arrows.’…...

...What Would You Do? Scenario 1- Della the Delinquent Cat Lady As the president of the board of directors of the cat shelter, I am faced with rather or not Ms. Della should remain as part of the staff at the cat shelter. There are several problems that have been brought to my attention and I feel that now is the time to figure out exactly what should be done regarding the matter. After, evaluating the situation and giving it a great deal of consideration, I have come up several solutions to the problem. One of the easier solutions would be to just let Della go. I have considered retraining Della as manager of the cat shelter, or having a sit down with Ms. Della and asking her how she thinks she is performing as manager. Also, I think that asking Ms. Della to step down as the manager and giving her a position that she can handle. Although, these may seem like the best solution to resolve the situation, I have to look at the pros and cons of any decision that I make. If I decide to let Della go, it might benefit the company in the sense that we can find someone that is really dedicated and committed to for fulfilling their position. On the hand, Della is already going through a tough time, and firing her will not only affect her, but affect her children as well whom she is trying to provide for. Retraining Della could really help her gain a better understanding as what is expected from her as a manger, and she could gain more knowledge that may help her excel as a......

What Would You Do

...Emma Finney November 9, 2012 Mrs. Likin English 095 Summary: Today we watched video clips from ABC’s show “What would you do?” one of situations in the video was a woman with OCD with a condition of germ phobia. She had dropped her groceries on the floor and could not purchase them for she felt they were “dirty”. The cashier was playing a roll of a not so very understanding person. He kept implying that they were not dirty and that the food was fine, one customer in line tried to explain to that OCD is Obsession Compulsive Disorder and that once something isn’t right they mentally cannot handle it. In the second situation there was a man in a liquor store with his son purchasing alcohol for a party that his son was going to have. You could tell that the son was very uncomfortable with the whole thing and that the father was pressuring him. A bunch of people disagreed with the actions the father was taking. In the final scenario a woman was breast feeding her child that was at the age of four in a coffee shop. One of the actors was playing the role as a disgusted costumer in the coffee shop and was making a big scene asking the woman to do that elsewhere. A lot of customer didn’t seem to have an issue with the woman breast feeding her child in the open public. Critique: All the scenarios had good points to them, if I was the person in line at the grocery store I would have done the same thing that the woman had done while she was in line. Some people have...

What Vpn Can Do for You. ( Written for Composition Class About I.T.)

...Internet Solutions Inc. What VPN can do for you A discussion of how it works, and how your business can be more efficient by using it. Richard Biondo (12825561) In a vastly growing world, we are discovering new and improved… innovated technology everyday; technology that helps people live a better life, and technology that makes businesses more productive. People now have smaller desktop computers that are faster, have better storage and process memory, and are more efficient than even five years ago; and lighter laptop computers with longer battery life that are capable of networking wirelessly. These days most homes are networked wirelessly with several laptops, making it more convenient for dad to work a few extra hours at home in the privacy of his home office while his son is on Facebook in his room with his buddies. We can also subnet other hosts as well like our smart phones, Playstations, Xbox gaming consoles etc, making it possible to use the wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) saving our phone data plan usage and be able to play a video game with someone far away. It’s safe to say that we’ve come a very long way in the advancement of computer solutions and networking capabilities, enjoying its convenience for any reason, personal use or for business. Today a network far extends beyond a single home, office, store or campus; today we have several networking options to suit our needs as we have: local area networks (LAN- covering a single floor or building), campus...

What Do You Know About the Cold War?

...is going on. This is what was going on in the beginning of the Cold War just two years after WW2, 1947. Though what do people living during 1960 or even the children of the baby boomers know about the Cold War? I believe that the American Perception of the Cold War is very different from what was going on. The first person I interviewed was my father in law Dan Faris. Dan said “ To know about the Cold War all you have to know about is the Iron Curtain cause they could be synonymous. This is very true the Iron Curtain is defined by the Eastern and Western separation of Europe by Communism. This is what started the Cold War. During the European Financial Collapse people would kling to whatever promises people could make them to get them out of their poverty. Stalin came in and promised a better tomorrow and communism spread. The United States saw this as a threat and they wanted to stop Communism therefore Truman employed Marshall and henceforth Marshall aid was offered to the people in those European countries. Which in turn threatened Stalin. Dan said that this all started in 1957 which is actually not true though since he was born in 1955 may have been what he perceived. All of this actually started in 1945. During these games that the Russians and U.S. was playing with each other soon it turned ugly when bombs were placed in Cuba which was called the Cuban Missile Crisis. Dan’s perception said” I know a lot about this subject and I know it had to do with the Iron......

What Are You Talking About

..."Ethics in Organizational Behavior" Please respond to the following: The decision to terminate an employee requires more information than what is given. The overall culture of the attitude towards the employee, how they interact, fit in, encourage or discourage their co-workers, and the overall dynamic of their presence in the organization.  By keeping the more motivated employees, that usually is comprised of the younger generation of the employee pool • Considering I have to answer the question I will provide explanations for both being “let go.”  If the company is looking to keep young energetic employees, and might be planning on moving into a new office style in the future they have to let go of Mary.  If the company is not planning on changing their office style they have to let go Sarah.  Keep in mind they both have strong attributes to bring to the table.  Sarah is trying to prove herself by stepping up to volunteer her services, but she is young and may find something more appealing to her and leave anyway.  Maybe Sarah finds a job in San Diego she is young and energetic, she may move away.  Then the company is finding itself having to rehire. Mary will be there for the long haul, she has family very steady employee at mid-40s.  So like I said in first paragraph, I would need more information in order to make a decision.   •From the scenario, determine the level of emphasis that organizations should place on ensuring that layoff decisions are ethical and......

Why Is It Important to Know What You Believe and What Do You Believe About God, the Bible, and Jesus Christ

...know what you believe so you can make the correct decisions in life based on your personal values, and judge the best way to solve problems in your life. It is also important to know what you believe so if questioned you can intelligently address the concern. If you KNOW you can present the inquisitor with facts so they can evaluate them for themselves. My Beliefs 1.) I believe in God. He is the creator of all things including me. The world and everything in it is so intricate it could not have happened by chance or evolved over billions of years. 2.) I believe the Bible is the word of God. I believe this because the Bible meets the needs of all mankind. If you need comfort, love, forgivness, or faith you can find some verse or chapter to address the need. I also believe the Bible because I have accepted Jesus into my life and have faith that that the Bible is true. 3.) I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe in him also because of faith. Jesus died in order to forgive us of our sins. Just because I cannot see him it does not mean he is not real. No matter what I am going through I know he’s there. If I need healing I pray and believe in him. If I need guidance in making a decision I ask and trust he will guide me. The hard part is to remain patient while waiting for him to show me the answers I seek. While waiting I keep praying to stay close to him. This way I do not......

...stuck, unhappy, and have no idea what to do about it, except move to another job. Mary Lyn Miller, veteran career consultant and founder of the Life and Career Clinic, says that when most people are unhappy about their work, their first thought is to get a different job. Instead, Miller suggests looking at the possibility of a different life. Through her book, "8 Myths of Making a Living," as well as workshops, seminars and personal coaching and consulting, she has helped thousand of dissatisfied workers re-assess life and work. Like the way of Zen, which includes understanding of oneself as one really is, Miller encourages job seekers and those dissatisfied with work or life to examine their beliefs about work and recognize that, "in many cases your beliefs are what brought you to where you are today." You may have been raised to think that women were best at nurturing and caring and, therefore, should be teachers and nurses. So that's what you did. Or, perhaps you were brought up to believe that you should do what your father did, so you have taken over the family business, or become a dentist "just like dad." If this sounds familiar, it's probably time to look at the new possibilities for your future. Miller developed a 7-step process to help potential job seekers assess their current situation and beliefs, identify their real passion, and start on a journey that allows them pursue their passion through work. What Do You Expect

...Courtney Gaylor GS1145 Charles Bozeman January 6, 2015 Most people have no clue as to what they're going to do with their lives and a lot of them do indeed turn out to be software engineers. Most software engineers do their jobs very poorly, many are average and a few are actually good, but everyone has a place in the industry. I am pursuing a degree at ITT Technical Institute in hopes of falling in the category of “actually good”. I feel that what I need to be successful is hands on learning. At ITT I plan to achieve a career, not just to float through life one “job” after another. A goal that I started to attain before leaving high school is developing the ability to see the value in maintaining a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. When I include my goal in the curriculum, I have a better understanding on how positive words, positive character traits and positive thinking can impact life immediately now and in the future. Another goal of mine is to be happy. To be happy is the most important thing there is because you only have one life and if you go through it fighting, competing and struggling you have wasted your one life. Being a human on this planet is like winning the lotto and if people would act that way we could all help each other and try to make the time we have not be a waste. I think that's my ultimate goal... I don't know that it's everyone's, if it's THE ultimate goal or even if there is a THE ultimate goal. Also I was thinking that......

What Makes Your Tired and What You Can Do About It

...ESSAY: What Makes You Tired-and What You Can Do About It Here is an astounding and significant fact: Mental work alone can't make you tired. Sounds absurd. But a few years ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labour without reaching "a diminished capacity for work", the scientific definition of fatigue. To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all! If you took blood from the veins of a day labourer while he was working, you would find it full of "fatigue toxins" and fatigue products. But if you took a drop of blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins whatever at the end of the day. So far as the brain is concerned, it can work "as well and as swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effort as at the beginning". The brain is utterly tireless. ... So what makes you tired? Psychiatrists declare that most of our fatigue derives from our mental and emotional attitudes. One of England's most distinguished psychiatrists, J.A. Hadfield, says in his book The Psychology of Power: "the greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin; in fact exhaustion of purely physical origin is rare." One of America's most distinguished psychiatrists, Dr. A.A. Brill, goes even further. He declares: "One hundred per cent of the fatigue of the sedentary worker in good health is due to psychological factors...

...Patient’s health care information, medical history, and personal identification are key information that internet hackers seek. Internet intruders can come from down the street or abroad. Protecting patient’s pertinent data is becoming more and more complicated. Patients enjoy the freedom of being able to access all their pertinent medical information from all over the world. Yet, they don’t realize that many eyes are constantly watching their every move. With the freedom comes the threat of identity theft. No matter how secure a system is someone is always ahead of the game finding ways to slip through the cracks. According to Alan Paller, “there are at least 100 countries actively doing cyber-espionage (M, 2010).” In the healthcare environment you have many people accessing and using the intranet system. The IT department has the job of monitoring and blocking excess from internet sites without security clearance or certificates out of date. Unknown to the IT department is that the staff can be trying to access these sites which are not allowed. This would put the healthcare organization at risk of scripts slipping in (M, 2010). these scripts are security breaches which are used to steal patient’s personal information. Anti-virus software programs are not looking for these scripts they are looking for files. These scripts can come from social media networks which staff may be accessing. According to Dave Meilek, “most of today’s threats are blended attacks propagated on......

To Do What You Have to

...geographic territory under Roman control grew, the use of Latin as a common language also spread. In areas under Roman control, Latin was the spoken and written language of the courts and commerce, as well as the language of the Christian church. As the Roman Empire expanded, Latin served as a common language that allowed for people of diverse linguistic backgrounds to be able to communicate. Latin, like other languages past and present, had more than one form and changed over time because it was both written and spoken, and the educational level or social status of the writer or speaker often determined the final form of the language. Latin was also influenced by local languages spoken or written within the larger territory under the influence of what later came to be known as the Roman Empire. During the Carolingian Renaissance, throughout the reign of Charlemagne and his successors, the development of Latin literacy was greatly promoted. Although reading and writing were skills that some people had, literacy was not widespread before that time. Literacy in Latin was generally limited to people of the upper classes and members of the clergy. Charlemagne invited Alcuin of York to become his personal tutor and the head of his court school. Charlemagne charged Alcuin with the development of a literacy curriculum for children that would provide for their instruction in reading and writing, as well as for further study in the liberal arts and theology, thereby also furthering......
