Q1. How has Solectron’s value to its customers evolved over time?

Over the years, Solectron’s value to its customers has evolved drastically from a player in the Electronics Manufacturing Service industry to a Supply Chain integrator for major firms like IBM, HP, Sony, Ericsson, Cisco etc.
Initially, Solectron manufactured a wide range of products for its customers in many business segments like Networking, Telecommunications, Computers, Computer peripherals, avionics, consumer electronics, GPS etc.
As Solectron grew, it expanded its services so much so that by the end of 90s it had three strategic business units: * Technology Solutions, which provided technology building blocks which helped customers minimise time-to-market for new products * Global Manufacturing, which provided design, new product introduction, and manufacturing and distribution services * Global Services, which provided repair, upgrade, maintenance etc
The company, with Mr. Chen concentrated on offering high quality, responsiveness, communication, service and technical support. The main objective was to achieve customer satisfaction by providing high quality.
When Solectron offered contract manufacturing services to OEMs, its aim was to offer them services at reduced prices due to greater volume purchasing. Rather than outsourcing as a way to access relatively inexpensive skilled labour, it became a source of tactical advantage which they provided. Tactical turnkey assembly meant that OEMs specified what was needed, and Solectron bought the materials, built the product, and shipped it to customers.
In 1992, Solectron introduced a new business model when it purchased manufacturing sites from IBM. As a part of the asset acquisitions, Solectron received long term supply contracts. This enabled its customers, the OEMs, to make the strategic decision to concentrate their efforts and…...

...Google: What They Say and What They Do Brumbaugh, Robert Blaine COM 530 June 11, 2012 Bob Kolber Abstract This paper is about the culture and communication methods of Google. It will start with an explanation of Google’s organizational culture and values. The following section will explain the role of communication within the organization. Including how communication is affected by the organization’s culture, and the role it plays in perception of the culture. The final sections will talk about misalignments between espoused and enacted values. Google’s Culture and Values “It’s really the people that make Google the kind of company it is.” ("Our Culture", n.d.). The people who work at Google are smart, determined, and from various parts of the world. The company hires people based more on their ability instead of their experience. They also maintain an open culture that allows for communication with everyone else in the company. “Googlers” as they call themselves, can even ask questions directly to Larry Page, the CEO of Google. The company values the input and diversity of its employees. It’s the input and diversity that fuels the innovation that the company is known for. Communication and Culture “One of the key reasons for Google's success is a belief that good ideas can, and should, come from anywhere.” (Mayer, 2005).  Google supports an all channel style of communication, meaning that everyone can talk to everyone else. What to Do with Chick-Fil-a?

...to get Chick-Fil-A off of their campuses. While disagreeing about the correct definition of a proper institution is marriage is not necessarily a despicable act, funding a hate group certainly is. Chick-Fil-A needs to keep their profits from plummeting, retain their positive public view, and try their best to make all parties happy. Although the latter of those objectives may be deemed impossible, one must look at which decision will make the people happy that have the biggest effect on the company’s profits and public image. One of the possible solutions would be for Chick-Fil-A’s owner and the rest of their upper management to let go of their opinions and accept those of the LGBT community as not trying to destroy their view of what marriage should be. Unfortunately, things are not always so easy and this solution is far too idealistic. One’s views will not change overnight and it is impossible for an entire company to change the morals it has always held with great importance. They would have no real gain from the decision because making the LGBT community and their supporters happy. Chick-Fil-A could also ignore the harsh criticisms that it has been receiving, considering they have not been financially hurt too much by the issue. Responding to the situation, Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor, called for a “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day” on August 1 in order to garner nationwide support for the company amidst the controversy. The day was met with critical......

What Is the Right Thing to Do?

...1. Explain, as clearly and completely as possible, Kant’s answer to “What is the right thing to do?” Are there any problems with this answer? According to Immanuel Kant, doing right and moral things are the right thing to do, which means we have the choices to choose what to do or what to respect the moral law which is expressing our goals. Also, we have to do something for the cause of the principle by doing the right things. By doing the right things and following the moral principle is what Kent called good will. Although one cannot achieve what he or she wants, he or she is still doing the right thing because he or she is intended of doing the right things. As you can see, doing something morally good, notwithstanding of its results are the right thing to do because it is his or her jobs. However, doing right and moral things may cause the problem of inclination. It is because people might think doing the good will is our jobs, we must do it. They will never think that they are more proposed to do the good-will because it rewards that it has involved in the thing. If it is like this, it cannot account for the good-will because there are not many people think that they must do it because it is their job instead of thinking how much intention that they want to do for goodwill. Thus, the problem may result of inclination. ...

...expedition they also found footprints and Yeti’s shit that was analyzed and contained both animal and vegetable matter. In 1958, an American scientist named Dr. Norman Dyrenfurth was working in Katmandu, Nepal and reported to have explored caves that belonged to a very low grade of human or near human creatures. He discovered physical evidence such as hair samples, plaster casts of footprints, and food scraps. I believe that these are the most accurate reliable sightings of the Yeti. The sightings of the Yeti seem to be very accurate and the evidence can be convincing. A lot of the sightings of the Yeti are very intense and rare. In 1913 when the Chinese hunters captured a hairy like creature what else could have it been? These sightings clearly prove that there is something out there but what or how could this thing exist in this world. These sources also show that they have encountered the Yeti or discovered clues that can lead to up to the life of Yeti. In 1954 they discovered authentic Yeti scalps in caves but was not identifiable which means this could only lead up to an abominable snowman or a creature we are not familiar with. These sources are the most accurate and reliable because they all have something in common about the Yeti. They all mention that it walks upright and it’s very strong with a lot of hair. There is no way the Yeti can exist in South Asia. The first scene of Yeti dates all the way back to the early 1800’s and till this day a lot of......

What Do Marketers Do

...“WHAT DO MARKETERS DO? “ New York is one of the most famous cities in the world. If I would ask people about the sights in this city, everybody will mention the Times Square for sure. So what have the Times Square and this text about marketing in common? Everywhere at this gaudy and lightly place there are advertisements. I personally think that one task of a marketer is it, to get these advertisements to places, where people can see it and where people are presented. They want to get people known that a product are exist. There are different companies, which producing the same product or service. So in business there’s an enormous competition and in my opinion marketers can make the different between success and failure. Their job is it, to make his product better looking for the people than the competitor. It’s not just about good looking; the customer should get the information which he needs. For example when I want to buy a new Smartphone I immediately think about “Samsung” and “Apple”. This is one aim, which marketers wanted to reach. On the one hand existing products are placed on the market like in the case before and on the other hand the marketer has to search for new products and ideas. In this case marketer have to make a market research, in which they are going to collect, review, analyse and interpret data to make right decisions. They also have to keep the competitor in view. What’s his next step? Do they get new technologies or make improvement at their......

What Do Marketers Do?

...What do marketers do? A marketer will have researched the market to find those needs of consumers that have not been developed. A marketer uses a business tool called the “marketing mix.” The marketing mix is essentially made up of the four Ps; price, product, promotion and place. These four elements are the underlying basis and marketing fundamentals to enable the marketer in determining a product or service. (Sharp, 2013) So selling is merely just a fraction of the entire marketing process of a product or service. When one looks closer at each p element of marketing, there is a considerable amount of strategy, planning and research that is required. By understanding the needs of a consumer is merely not enough, there are also other factors which require research and understanding why consumers are influenced in a number of ways to make specific purchases. All these factors are driven ultimately by consumer behaviour. A marketer will have researched consumer behaviour, in other words, they use market science, to systematically gather and analyse information needed. By applying the theoretical aspects of marketing and bridging this with real world marketing knowledge, the marketer can make informed decisions in planning marketing strategies. Many marketing fundamental theories have evolved over time, after all, marketing has been around been for thousands of years, many have seen thousands of products come and go over time. Yet the fundamental factors that influence......

...design appropriate marketing strategies, and manage the undertaking marketing activities (Mbalib n.d.). In order to seeking potential market opportunities, it is essential for marketers to do comprehensive market research in forms of observations and surveys, which helps marketers to understand consumers’ needs and wants, as well as their behaviour (Sharp 2013, p.6). What Nurses Do

...about nurses, and what they actually do, you don’t normally think about anything other than them just helping out the doctors. In reality, being a nurse is much more than that. Nursing care is not only about nursing skills, it’s about providing a superior bedside manner. You have to be available to the patient whenever they may need you. Nursing is a profession within the health care sector, focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life. My mom is a nurse, so I had a little preconceived knowledge about what a nurse actually does. I thought that nurses were just there to be an aid to the doctors. After my observation, I realize that being a nurse is much more than that. Nurses provide care both interdependently, for example, with physicians, and independently as nursing professionals. Nurses work along with the doctors, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, discharge planning nurses, the pharmacies, and the palliative care team. I job shadowed Mellissa Bergman, who is an LPN at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah. To start off the early morning, we started giving each resident their medications. Each resident has different medications and supplements they have to take. Some residents only have a few pills, while others have so many, they have to take them mixed with pudding. What to Do

...Sometimes you will get stuck while you are working on a tough assignment in a challenging class. It is very important to let someone know that you may be in over your head. You may feel a desire to do something easy and fun, like play a video game or watch TV, instead of working on the assignment and reminding yourself that you are not up to the task. Ideally, you will not be given an assignment you are truly incapable of finishing. If you do not have a breakthrough in a reasonable amount of time, you need to alert the teacher that you are going to fail. A decent teacher will help you work through your mental blockage. If you are a university student, you may need tutoring or you may want to "audit" the class one time through before you take it for real. If you are in high school, you might need to stay after school or find a suitable tutor. Perhaps you should step down a level and take the weight off of your shoulders. Advanced classes make school interesting for people who would be bored by a slower pace. If you are in over your head, you need to slow down and really learn it. In any event, you will cause much greater damage to yourself if you fail a class or get a low grade. The American GPA system is unforgiving. You cannot gain points like you lose points. Nobody cares about valiant, failing efforts at tough classes. If you are in over your head in high school, find shallower water by changing your level. In university, get out of the pool by dropping the class....
