When I'M Brave Enough

The problem is that we both made mistakes.

I’ve never been the type to own up to them right off the bat. I find it awkward and sometimes too far off, raising a problem when ignoring it was all you probably needed.

The thing is I still think about it. You’re not a idiot; it’s pretty obvious. I think you’re amazing and that won’t change no matter what this manages to morph itself into. And in my opinion, it doesn’t need to. But I think about the song, I think about the poems, I think about the unfinished story rotting because I’ve lost what motivated me to complete it.

A story is a what-could-have-been right? When we daydream about our futures, daydream about bravery and acceptance and victory, it’s just a fantasy story of our lives.

Sometimes I just have to write it down to make sure I don’t lose it. Don’t forget it. Understand that once upon a time, I was such and such.

People say in the future, they’ll look back and laugh.

I won’t laugh; I’ll understand. Perhaps not why, why you, why this time, why so silent and why so demanding but I’ll understand the circumstances. I’ll understand what drove me and what tore it apart.

My entire life’s story out there for everyone to see. Sometimes I feel so exposed. It’s weaving together assumptions that are sometimes so out there, right in the open. But that’s okay, because even things I write a month ago, I no longer understand. I don’t know whom I was so pissed off at and what made me write a passage on loneliness. I don’t need to.

It’s all in the moment.

& It’s not so much that we lost it, as much as we left it behind. Or one of us did and is unwilling to own up to it.

But I try. Only sometimes when I am brave enough.…...

I'M in an Island... It Pains Me to Be Quiet When My Heart Wants to Shout!

...I'm in an ISLAND... it pains me to be quiet when my heart wants to shout! A sailor was stuck in an island where he was the only survivor. He made a hut for his shelter day and night. He's praying and waiting for someone to rescue him but no one came. He stored food in the hut for his survival. But one day, the hut burned to ashes and nothing was left. He was so angry, he said: "God, why have you done this to me?” The next morning rescuers came. He asked:" How did you know that I am here?” They replied:" we saw a smoke signal." Trust Him even when bad things happen. His plans are always greater than ours... This inspires me today. I received this message from a friend on my mobile. Been asking the same to God: "why have you done this to me?", WE might not understand the reasons why things happen, why we meet people, why we’re hurt, why we have to say goodbye, why we have to cry, why we have to go over and over the many hurtful challenges of life... we might not really understand...but we keep on hoping. We just don't realize that everything happened that makes us the weakest- will be the sign of God’s prosperity. - But amidst the weakest point of our lives, we will come up a stronger person! We just have to keep the faith and pray hard. It will make us the person God would want us to be. Remember that all those challenges and pains will make us the true great person we ought to be as God’s promise of His love to us....

The Brave

...message that the music that the hip hop culture endures is all negative and talks only about violence. However, there may be a few violent songs here and there, but one cannot conclude a general statement from only a small sample of the group. There are many hip hop songs that have come out and topped the charts that were not violence based lyrics. For example, Kanye West made a song called Jesus walks. One part of the songs says, “They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus that means guns, sex, lies, video tapes but if I talk about God my record won't get played Huh? Well let this take away from my spins which will probably take away from my ends then I hope this take away from my sins and bring the day that I'm dreaming about next time I'm in the club everybody screaming out, Jesus walks.” This Kanye West song is the perfect example of social commentary most artist use in their lyrics. They use social commentary to make their points and the individuals with similar thoughts and feelings in that society stands out so that the whole world is informed of what they are going through in their culture. This particular song has absolutely nothing to do with teaching violence; it’s a positive song talking about how hard it is to make it in the music industry successfully without talking about killing and violence; being as though that’s what the media wants them to talk about to enhance their chances of degrading the hip hop culture in such ways as McBride does in......

Assessing Projects and Risk: When the Npv Is Not Enough

...Assessing Projects and Risk: When the NPV is not Enough Augusto Korps Jr.- Managing Director, Sao Paolo Renato Delgado- Associate, Sao Paolo William Morishigue- Senior Analyst, Sao Paolo Discounted Cash Flow is the most widely-used technique for project assessment and is supported by modern corporate finance theory. Under this method, the expected future cash flows must be discounted by a rate that will compensate for the systematic risk of these flows. After this, decisions are based directly on the Net Present Value (NPV): if it is more than zero, the company should invest, since the project will bring wealth to the company. Despite the theory supporting this model, it's obvious that decisions are not actually based only on the "NPV>0" rule. Companies often reject projects with a low positive NPV and relevant cash flow uncertainty. For example: suppose that a company has R$ 90 million in available cash and is considering a project with immediate results that can be divided into two scenarios with equal probabilities of occurrence: the company could earn 102 or lose 100. Should it invest? The project would have an expected value of 1 (NPV>0), so in theory the company should accept it. Even with such reasoning, it would be hard to imagine a company carrying that project through. We can see, therefore, that NPV analysis is not always enough for a decision. So how can we explain this type of situation from the optics of financial theory, and how can we incorporate it......

When a Knife Isn't Enough

...When a Knife Isn’t Enough Two years ago, one of my good friends was shot in the stomach while walking to his car from a downtown bar. While he lay bleeding on the ground, the two suspects took his wallet, with a mere twenty dollars included, and his car stereo. Luckily, my friend was able to grab his phone from his pocket and call 911. He recovered well but the suspects were never found. A few weeks after his release from the hospital, we both took a concealed carry course. I can only imagine what the outcome would have been if my friend was able to reach for a handgun instead of his phone. The offenders would have been caught right then and there for sure. If he owned a gun and was carrying it at the time of the incident, he could have properly defended himself. While guns have proven to be a dangerous part of our society, I believe that they are necessary in the overall safety and well being of our Country. In “Get a Knife, Get a Dog, but Get Rid of Guns,” Molly Ivins begins her argument by stating she is not anti-gun, but rather pro-knife. Ivins states that, “A general substitution of knives for guns would promote physical fitness.” While Ivins’ sense of humor is very apparent, it does not do much to set the proper tone. It is obvious to anyone that both knives and guns can inflict extreme physical harm on a person. This being said, they are hardly equal. A knife does not stab someone with the pull of a trigger; it takes a little more effort than that.......

Brave under Taliban rule, their attempts to take control of the valley, and her views on promoting education for girls. The following summer, a New York Times documentary was filmed about her life as the Pakistani military intervened in the region, culminating in the Second Battle of Swat. Yousafzai rose in prominence, giving interviews in print and on television, and she was nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize by South African activist Desmond Tutu. On 9 October 2012, Yousafzai was shot in the head and neck in an assassination attempt by Taliban gunmen while returning home on a school bus. In the days immediately following the attack, she remained unconscious and in critical condition, but later her condition improved enough for her to be sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, United Kingdom for intensive rehabilitation. On 12 October, a group of 50 Islamic clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwā against those who tried to kill her, but the Taliban reiterated its intent to kill Yousafzai and her father. The assassination attempt sparked a national and international outpouring of support for Yousafzai. Deutsche Welle wrote in January 2013 that Malala may have become "the most famous teenager in the world."[2] United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown launched a UN petition in Yousafzai's name, using the slogan "I am Malala" and demanding that all children worldwide be in school by the end of 2015. Brown said he would hand the......

..."Enough" Remember those time we had The good, the happy and sad I never thought we got around When things went tumbling down I guess we got lonely There was no one else for us to turn to ‘Cause I don’t need you any longer ‘cause now I’m stronger Enough no more It’s time for you to be on your way Time’s up. Get out No need for us to figure it out Let go. Move on. It’s time to go our separate ways Enough be gone The hurt and pain will only remain Stop tryin’ to call me Stop messin’ with my mind Oh why can’t you see? That there’s nothing else you will find ‘cause we’ll only keep on fighting And our hearts will only keep on hurting Tell me who are we fooling with our selfish pride So… Enough no more It’s time for you to be on your way Time’s up. Get out No need for us to figure it out Let go. Move on. It’s time to go our separate ways Enough be gone The hurt and pain will only remain Stay away – that’s the only way It’s gonna get better Till the clouds settle Find a way – for our hearts to be sober And someday I hope and I pray Maybe we could be good friends Take a turn at this dead end This is enough Yeah we fuss and fight What a damage we’ve done And I knew that we ain’t gon’ make it right Looking at the mirror This body and mind is wasted And now I just feel so ashamed to feel like I’ve be chasing The love I never thought would last I guess that was the past I remember all the memories and things we used to have ...

When Is Enough Really Enough

...When is Enough Really Enough I was inspired by John Updike because he expresses his peculiar passion for golf bliss for golf was a unique way he takes us through his passion not telling you why he likes it but how it is played and the aspects that make it so unique. Most people do not think about when thinking about all the little details involved in a passion. His since of style along with detail for every key component and concept that goes into the game is what makes his writing so much different for all the other I have read. For a long time I never knew that one person could change your life in such a way that it shapes your future. I never knew such a passion for running could be ignited by something that you never thought or saw yourself doing and by someone you could only know for a year. It was not until I was twelve and in junior high school that I found a peculiar joy with running track. Running hurdles was the most difficult of all the runs. Having to accurately time your jump and leg swing in order to clear the hurdle and make sure you did not lose any speed or hit the person next you presented a great degree difficulty. The size of the lanes always felt insufficient to the size of the hurdle, which made you feel that you were going to plummet. The most invigorating feeling was when you heard the popping of the starting gun, and then your heart would race as the sound ignites your senses and adrenaline running through your veins. Although hurdles were one......

"Only When It Is Dark Enough Can You See the Stars" - Martin Luther King

...“Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.” This quote by Martin Luther King Jr means that when you are going through dark times, everything will get better. Although you are struggling, you’ll reach a figurative light at the end of the tunnel. Two books that apply to this quote are Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, and Ragtime by E.L Doctorow. Of Mice and Men is a book full of struggles. It starts out with two main characters, George and Lenny. Lenny is mentally challenged making it hard for both of them to find and maintain jobs. The setting plays a huge role in the novel. It takes place in California during the 1930’s. This is when the infamous Dust Bowl was going on. There was a seven year drought, and the once fertile land became desert like. So many migrant farmers traveled around to find jobs. Lenny keeps making mistakes with woman, unintentionally, while George is just trying to make ends meet. They constantly have the American dream in mind wishing to save money and buy their own farm. Ultimately George must make a huge sacrifice and kill Lenny, since he was bound to die eventually anyway. Even though both characters struggled mightily, Lenny died peacefully, and George could finally maintain a job. So after all He’s been through George finally found his figurative light at at the end of the tunnel. Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow is another book that clearly relates to the quote. Tateh is a character that highlights finding the figurative “Light at the end......

...'Enough,'' a jarring thriller packed to the gills with cheap shocks, suggests the emergence of a new Hollywood subgenre: the male yuppie horror film. The unspoken premise behind it suggests that a new generation of cold young men has arisen who are so obsessed with fattening their portfolios and chiseling their abs that they have forgotten to grow souls. And yes, that premise probably contains a tiny grain of truth. Out of this grain, however, the movie has conceived a caricature even more monstrous than Glenn Close's voracious Medusa in ''Fatal Attraction.'' On a certain tit-for-tat level, ''Enough'' might even be seen as a feminist revenge for the stereotyping in ''Fatal Attraction,'' even though both films were written and directed by men. The movie, which opens today nationwide, also exploits an ugly undercurrent of class warfare. Its star, Jennifer Lopez, plays a spunky working-class woman suckered into marriage with a rich yuppie master of the universe who brutally abuses her. In the movie's climax, she faces down her husband in one-on-one combat, armed with brass knuckles and fortified by a crash course in martial arts. Will honest working-class pluck and self-reliance triumph over spoiled upper-class privilege? You don't have to ask. Throughout, Ms. Lopez holds the screen in a star performance that has less to do with acting than with embodying a forceful, streetwise woman who stands up for herself. The movie's yuppie monster, versions of which you may......

A Brave Lesson

...Miranda Muller Professor Lewis Reading Cinema, MW 2:30-3:45 13 December 2013 A Walk Through Fate and Semiotics “Some say our destiny is tied to the land, as much a part of us as we are of it. Others say fate is woven like a cloth, so that one’s destiny intertwines with many others. It’s the one thing we search for, or fight to change. Some never find it, but there are those who are led” (Chapman). Those are the words of Merida, the heroine of one of Pixar’s latest films, Brave. The Disney production may be quite recent, but the overall moral of its tale is certainly nothing new. Instead, it merely reinforces two simple but powerful themes: it implies that pride and a reckless wish to change one’s fate may result in a recipe for potential disaster. This paper will explore through a semiotic study how its three most important symbols, the torn bond, the bear, and the standing stones render the tale of the courageous tomboy a cheerful but cautionary one. As the princess of the Scottish Kingdom of DunBroch, custom holds that she is to be married to a prince from one of the neighboring clans. Throughout approximately the first half of the film, her mother Queen Elinor tries to prepare her for her marriage and for the day that she herself is to become queen. Unfortunately for both mother and daughter, Merida has no desire to be married to any of the suitors in the film or to accept the responsibilities of the crown just yet, and thus creates a tension with her parents......

When a Woman's Had Enough

...Jamie Lyons November 2, 2015 Profess A. Berlin English 201-06 When A Woman’s Had Enough Walking away from a dysfunctional relationship, whether it is romantic or otherwise, instills a sense of power and brings control back into our lives. We tend to become powerless because we’re insecure and too trusting of our partner. Although being insecure isn’t a terrible thing, when we are in love and insecure with ourselves, we’re more likely to be in a vulnerable state. Frequently, we miss the flawed character of our lover and give them undue credit. As a result, we can easily be manipulated and be seen as weak or invaluable, just like a pawn in the game of chess. In the story Mauser, by Louise Erdrich, we learn the only thing left for a woman with a broken heart is revenge, and we witness bravery in the face of danger; even death and strong-will are traits that are sought out on the ones who wronged her. When one’s insecurities and state of vulnerability is combined, being manipulated is an easy task. As a contender for heartbreak and continuous failed relationships, the narrator falls victim to Travis, a charming, but vain construction worker she works with at Mauser’s company. Although she knows Travis likes to play games, and thinks he can get anything he wants because of his smooth character and charming looks, the narrator still gives in to his manipulating ways. Sadly, Travis is not only known for manipulating women, but also manipulating his controlling boss......

Scientism in Brave New World

...Scientism and Technocracy in Brave New World Introduction Brave New World is well recognized as a dystopian novel, in which Aldous Huxley satirically criticized scientism and technocracy. In this new world, science and technology was paramount. It dominated all aspects of human life. Humans were mass produced in laboratory and factories; human moral value were moulded by sleeping teaching; human emotions were controlled by soma. The overuse of science and technology reduced humans to one-dimensional man without individuality and the ability of critical thinking. Human beings were used as tools for political and economic purposes. The thesis is to study scientism and technocracy, the "improper application of science to human life", from two aspects: the interference with human physical life and the elimination of human spiritual life. Scientism and Technocracy Scientism, according to Zhu Wang, is "an excessive belief in the power of scientific knowledge and technology to solve all human problems including spiritual crisis" (194). It is "the authority of natural sciences, dominating all aspects of human life and rejecting religion, philosophy, art, and literature" (194). In Brave New World, Huxley depicted a dystopian society to condemn the excessive use of science and technology which eliminated human individuality and civilization. He pointed out in his Complete Essays Vol.6 that science was "the reduction of multiplicity to unity….the theoretical......

When Is Resignation Not Enough- an Ethical Dilemma

...Memo RE: When Is Resignation Not Enough – An Ethical Dilemma FACTS: In 1989, Page Nolan left Smith, Jones, & Brown CPA firm to work as a controller for Anonymous Company. The main focus of her job was to keep the books for the many business units and see that income and expenses were assigned properly, while all government requirements were met. Nolan soon realized that the company was incorrectly booking consulting fees. The consulting expenses were correctly stated, to bring the profit margin down to an acceptable amount for the government projects, however since the consultant was part of the company, this revenue was incorrectly recorded as donated capital. Nolan was told not to worry about this method of accounting by the manager of this segment of the business and the head of the company. Page went to his past employer who was also the current CPA firm for the company but was brushed off by the partner she approached. Not knowing what else to do, but uncomfortable with the situation, Page Nolan resigned. ISSUES: 1. What is illegal about Anonymous Company’s accounting method? 2. What professional standards does Page Nolan have to abide by as a CPA who is now working for a private company? 3. What steps should Page Nolan take, by law, other than resigning? What responsibilities does she have to the CPA firm, government agencies, and Anonymous Company? 4. What are the responsibilities of SJ & B CPA firm? CONCLUSIONS: 1. Anonymous Company does...
