As a young adult, not knowing what life has in store for yourself or possible not caring at all is the problem with youth today. Each person has different responses to this questions, college, and workforce, unemployed and for some reason below unemployed is enlisted military service. “Every man, every woman who has to take up the service of government, must ask themselves two questions: 'Do I love my people in order to serve them better? Am I humble and do I listen to everybody, to diverse opinions in order to choose the best path?’ If you don't ask those questions, your governance will not be good.” (Pope Francis) Knowing this, one would hope enlisting in the military would be the best way to serve yourself, your family, your home and most of all your country. The concept of enlisting will be discussed, the reasons for considering the services, and the benefits of doing so.

Enlisting in the Military Today
Imagine graduating High school and the next day you have career minded job with steady pay and all the experience you need to grow within your company. Wow, I also realized I have a medical benefits and general purpose to life. The thing that differs from the 70’s is gratification of the calling to serve, at least it is expressed to me from the grocery store to the complete stranger who would like to express their deepest appreciation, for a moment in time you feel this euphoric sensation that this was the right decision. There are many reason to join and there are some reason to not the best way is to line up your priorities, want and needs to see what best option for your particular situation are. “Whether you are considering the military out of a sense of Patriotism or duty, for action and adventure, or for a steady job in a depressed economy, there is something for everyone.” College vs. Economy vs. Military, who will win for you, remember the military isn’t for everyone only 1% of young people 17-24 are both “eligible and inclined to have conversation with” the military about possible service, according to the Defense Department. The American dream seems very attainable for many but unfortunately that is not the case for a large population of high school kids in today’s society. First off the financial responsibility is overwhelming for the average American. “According to the latest figures, average annual tuition and fees for in-state students at public universities have risen 2.9 percent for the 2014-15 school year, to $9,139. The tuition/fees for nonresidents at state universities increased 3.3 percent to $22,958. At public two-year colleges, the price jumped 3.3 percent, bringing the average tab to $3,347. Private, nonprofit colleges raised their tuition by 3.7 percent, bringing the new cost to $31,231.” The cost per year for a college student doesn’t even equate to what they will potentially be making a year once they are out of college. These statistics are overwhelming to say the least. Enlisting in the military is not only a smart financial decision but it can more than likely secure your future career as well? The military offers 100 percent tuition assistance and after your enlistment is up the Veterans Affairs will pay for your college degree for up to 36 months. Other services offered by the military are resume workshops, job placement and vocational rehabilitation training. Therefore not only will you have a secure job for at least four years during an initial enlistment but you can potentially have a degree by the time you’re finished with your enlistment.
The current unemployment rate is 5.8 percent as of November 2014 according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The job market is not supporting the population growth. 50 percent of college graduates aren’t even using their college degrees in their current job and are thousands of dollars in debt. Many graduates just give up on looking for a job because there aren’t opportunities banging at their door. Enlisting in the military is a viable option to earn money, gain technical skills and training as well as leadership skill that will assist you for the rest of your life. One of the difficulties in getting a job fresh out of college is lack of experience consistent with the working knowledge in their field. Many states such as Florida offer Veterans preference in job placement over other applicants. There are also countless of agencies seeking to hire military veterans on the sheer fact that they have the technical skills and aptitude to excel in a variety of situations based on their military experience. The military is not always the easiest choice to make however it can be the wisest considering the current economic problems in the United Sates.
Thus far we understand the benefits I previously mentioned such as financial security and job security but there are many more benefits that people take for granted daily that many would do not worry about in the military. Health care is not a topic many 18 year olds think about because the majority are still covered by their parents to the age of 21 and sometimes further than that with the right plan. Some of the things I considered was the military has installations all around the world and pays for you and your family to get there and back. The military gives you 30 days of paid leave per year, not including weekends and federal holidays, depending on your job. Your off duty time is yours and you are free to travel and see the world. An enlisted with 20 years of service, who earns over $60,000 per year, could retire with a pension of over $24,000 per year for life in his or her 40’s and start a second career. Imagine earning over $2000 per month for the rest of one’s life, starting at age 40. This equates to an accumulative pay of $240,000, $480,000, $720,000 in 10, 20, and 30 years, respectively, without ever lifting your finger again. Couple that with a second career that you trained and qualified for since you went to college for free while you served, oh lets don’t forget that free health care. All I can say I hope tour one of the one percent, FIND A RECRUITER TODAY AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER.

Abortion: Why It Should Be Not Be Banned

...Your first name and Last name Professor Who is it Course Title 19 December 2012 Abortion: Why it should be not be banned In the United States and most part of the world, the issue of abortion has sparked a heavy controversy, creating a strong debate over the rights and wrongs of deliberately ending a pregnancy before normal childbirth. There is no denying the fact that, most people today are caught in between the moral dilemma of whether or not to terminate a pregnancy. It is one of the issues in our society today creating not just a political divide, but equally a public and moral one. For example, the Telegraph of December 18, 2012 published its story which reads in part: A Polish Catholic organisation has sparked furore after it compared legal abortion to the Newtown school massacre. On its website the conservative organisation Fronda asked what the difference was between "children killed by doctors and children killed by a madman?" It also questioned whether killing children with parental consent is better than killing children against their will? ( para. 1-3). The above news lead reminds us once again of the opposing views held by different members of the society concerning abortion. Before delving into the argument arena, it is imperative that the term abortion be defined; its historical background briefly discussed, and some arguments in support of ban be examined. This will serve as foundation upon which this work will rest. The Oxford Advanced Learner’s......

Beef...and Why It Should Not Be for Dinner

...Kyle Ankrum English 110 Dr. Aitken June 23, 2012 Beef…and why it should not be for dinner A vegan is defined as a person who refrains from using any animal product for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Therefore, with the human population increasing on the planet, putting more and more stress on the planet’s capacity to produce food and renew its resources, veganism is becoming more and more popular because it is considered to be a conscientious way of life. For some it is for religious and personal reasons, for others it has to do with the fair treatment of animals. In any case, those whose diet has been traditionally meat-based, the vegan lifestyle is a responsible, choice for very legitimate reasons. Think about where the animal products you consume come from? You are probably picturing grassy farmlands with cows leisurely walking around, pigs happily rolling around in the mud, and coops filled with chickens cozily laying eggs, right? Wrong. These farms rarely exist today. Instead, cows are kept pregnant to continuously produce milk, pigs are kept in windowless concrete cages, and 250,000 hens are piled in one building to lay their eggs. This is what is known as a factory farm. Factory farms are overcrowded filled with terrified, suffering animals. These conditions are unacceptable. By eating meat and dairy products, or purchasing leather or fur, you are supporting these factory farms and their poor conditions. In order to stand up to the industry, we must...

Should the Uae Have a Military Conscription ?

...contracts, which regulate their relationships with army. Moreover, military career becomes popular with both men and women in UAE. However, conscription is a possible option fr UAE authorities to choose to make the army more powerful and numerous and educate young people to be knowledgeable in the military sphere. The implementation щf conscription to the army has both advantages and disadvantages, which will be discussed in this paper. Today the UAE army is not very big, but quite effective. It is well-structured and consists of Nave, Air, Army and Air Defense Force (“Emirati Army”). All these divisions invite men and women to join the army to provide better inner security for citizens. Paramilitary forces are a separate special division, which helps the country to provide better realization of laws and rights on the territory of the country. Why Marijuana Should Be Legal?

...basic reason that marijuana should be legal is that there is no good reason for it not to be legal. Some often ask “why should marijuana be legalized?" but we should ask "Why should marijuana be illegal?" From an abstract point of view, we as individuals deserve the right to make choices for themselves. There is no logic why someone would be pushed to take legal drugs that are proven to sometimes be potentially worse for one’s body and mind. “Marijuana is far less subject to abuse than most drugs used to treat the same conditions. It is also less addicting. Dr. Lester Grinspoon, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School, says that “Marijuana is safer than most drugs used to treat the same problems.” Since there is no known case of lethal marijuana overdose, that would mean marijuana is safer than aspirin. According to John Marx, one thousand people a year die of aspirin overdose. The side effects of aspirin can also harm young children. The estimated ratio of lethal to effective dose is 40,000 to 1. The second major reason that marijuana should be legal is because banning it does not help the country in any way, and causes a lot of problems. There is no good evidence that supports that banning marijuana decreases drug use, it might actually increase drug use because many people like to do the opposite of what they are told. Anyways, one unintended effect of marijuana prohibition is that marijuana is very popular in American high schools. Why? It is readily available......

Why Assault Weapons Should Not Be Banned for allowing me the opportunity to speak today. A man enters a crowded public area; he places the stock of his gun against his hip and pulls the trigger, holding it down as he firing indiscriminately into the crowd killing dozens of innocents in mere seconds. Is this the type of image that comes to mind when someone mentions the word assault rifle? It was when I first heard the term, but this stigma is incorrect and unfair. The weapon I have described is not in fact an assault rifle but rather a military grade machine gun. Anyone in his or her right mind would agree that no average citizen would ever have the need to possess a fully automatic military grade firearm. That is why machine guns such as I described are as illegal today as they have been for the past twenty-seven years. Narration: It is being proposed today that banning assault rifles would be beneficial in protecting the American people. That if people are no longer allowed to purchase these weapons, gun violence will decrease. I believe that the United States does have a problem of gun violence. I believe that action does need to be taken to protect its citizens against dangerous criminals with guns. I believe that banning assault rifles is not the correct way to do this. Division: Assault rifles are not, as their name would indicate, fully automatic military-grade tools of death. So what is an assault rifle? An assault rifle fires only one bullet with each pull of the trigger and......

Should Military Service Be Mandatory

...Should Military Service Be Mandatory in the United States? Angela R. Jewell Non Commissioned Officer Academy – Advance Leader Course # 13-003 Should Military Service be Mandatory in the United States? In the world today, there is approximately fifty percent of countries that mandate their citizens to serve in their military for an extended period of time. Those countries that do require their citizens to serve base it on the simple fact that they need to be ready for war AT a moments notice and if all their citizens know how to fight they will succeed in any battle in which they are placed. Israel, Brazil, South Korea, Mexico, Germany, and Russia are some examples of democratic countries that require their citizens to serve the national government, not just in the military, in order to mold a better-quality adult in today’s world. With any serious subject that is being considered for implementation, there are those who believe that such an action would be beneficial to any country and those that deem it would do nothing but tear down a society and what a country stands for. As this topic is debated in the United States, both sides need to seriously consider if the implementation of national service helps build the patriotism of its young, if it helps in solving some of the social ills that plague society, and how it develops the character of the individuals that serves. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the United States of America came together......

Why Athletes Should Be Paid.

...Exploitation Imagine waking up every morning at the break of dawn only to be greeted by a day packed with laborious studies, excruciating weight training and tiresome athletic practices and after all of it is over going home to house full of unpaid bills and a refrigerator that is empty. For many college athletes today this is a very real scenario. Student athletes from colleges across the country dedicate their whole lives to a sport and receive no compensation from the NCAA for their hard work. The NCAA, or the National Collegiate Athletic Association, regulates and controls all activity that has to do with collegiate sports. The NCAA is also responsible for resolving all complications in collegiate sports but is often ridiculed by many for neglecting the issue of paying college athletes. While some do believe that athletes are already compensated enough, others agree that these athletes deserve payment. This topic has sparked debate throughout the country and that is why currently the NCAA is working hard to find a solution. There are many reasons that student athletes should be paid, including: the NCAA and the rest of college sports is a multi billion-dollar industry, student athletes have no time for work to support their very active lifestyle, there is high injury risk that comes with playing competitive sports, and finally the added incentive for athletes to stay in school and the overall competiveness would rise making the collegiate athletics more enjoyable.......

The It Policy - Why Do We Need One and What Should It Contain ?

...The IT Policy - Why do we need one and what should it contain ? Many, many years ago, in fact December 25th 1981, I got my first computer, a joint Christmas present with my Brother. My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81 with 1k ram, we later purchased a 16k expansion pack and a sound-card and spent many long hours programming it, reading the 'full' manual (RTFM;) and if things went wrong or the program we had just spent all day working on crashed we had no IT help line to ring, we just had to sort it out ourselves. My Brother and I have been 'into computers' ever since, but why mention this ? Back then we thought the future held many innovations and a shiney new world where computers are as common as the TV, with functionality to match, you go to a shop, buy a Computer, take it home and plug it in and it just works, like a TV. Sounds great doesn't it. Unfortunately the reality is far from this, there are many inherent problems with computers and many nasty things that want to make your computer life hell. Managing a home computer is hard enough, trying to navigate through a myriad of options all programs have now from writing a letter where the program spell-checks it as you type, offers suggestions and allows to to mail-merge with your database to print the letter or email mail it to far flung corners of the globe, or, which browser / email client / picture editing program / letter writing program etc. to use. Why Women Should Not Have Combat Roles in the Military

...Why Women Should Not Have Combat Roles in the Military In January of 2013, the ban preventing female soldiers from having combat roles in the military was lifted (Harris). As of today, women are fighting on the front lines of war alongside men during a time when war is more brutal now than ever. As a soldier in the Army, it is my plan to one day go overseas and fight against the enemies of the United States. However, it frightens me to know I will be fighting alongside mothers, sisters and daughters, who are all sacrificing their lives to do a job that men have been doing since the beginning of time. There are many important jobs done by women in our military, and I know that is what makes our country special, but I do not think women should be allowed combat roles. The main reasons behind my argument are women are not physically or mentally suited for combat, the amount of tension and sexual abuse that results from women in combat, and the amount of other jobs that women can have in our military besides combat jobs. Women are simply not as physically equipped as men are for combat. A contributor to said, "Men are over 30% stronger than women, especially in the upper body. Although many feminists cannot face this fact, females simply do not have the strength or endurance necessary to be, for example, effective combat soldiers." A combat soldier is required on average to wear between 88 to 102 pounds of gear, depending on the weather, on almost every...

As the development of beauty pageants and beauty industry show, women are eager to change their appearance in different ways such as make-up or dieting. However, beauty that comes from all of these methods can never last long due to the effect of aging. Women are then trying to look for ways that keep beauty permanent. Cosmetic surgery is a type of surgery that can reshape or enhance a body part in order to improve outward appearance. There are many kinds of cosmetic surgery these days, such as breast enlargement and nose reshaping. All of these surgeries claim to be the best way for permanent beauty. Because of its great advantages, cosmetic surgery has been recently rising in popularity. However, no cosmetic surgery solely for aesthetic purposes should allowed to be performed as it is only a surgery to improve physical appearance rather than a real medical need. Also, there are many disadvantages for having cosmetic surgery, including side effects that might cause health problems, and the high costs in surgery. There is no doubt that cosmetic surgery is popular these days as people who are suffering from body image problems might believe that cosmetic surgery can help rebuild their self-confidence. According to a survey which shows that those in America, more than 56% of women and 43% of men are actually not satisfied with their own appearance. "That dissatisfaction......

Why We Should Institute Military Draft

...I never thought I would say this but I think we should reinstate the draft. It has been years since we have wanted or needed a draft, but in view of the United States being attacked on September 11, 2001, I feel our country must be ready and prepared to defend itself. If being prepared means reinstating the draft, a mandatory summons for military service, then I think we should consider this a reasonable proposal. I think the tragic events of September 11 will evoke most people to agree with me. Since September 11 we have seen a surge of patriotism in this country that seemed hidden for many years. I am so glad patriotism was not lost, and I think most Americans would be willing to defend their country in light of this attack. We are a nation and a people who believe in freedom and democracy. It tells other nations who we are and what we stand for. It is these beliefs that lead me to believe that the people of the United States will do anything to preserve our freedom and democracy even if it means reinstating the draft. I want to prove this notion, but am unsure how to accomplish this. I have not read any recent articles in newspapers or magazines that have dealt with this issue. My textbook was not a source either. So I decided to do two things. First, I went to the Internet for any information, articles, discussions, or statements relating to this issue. Second, I decided to conduct an informal poll. This informal poll consisted of male and female respondents with an age......
