10 Fundamental Differences Between Linux and Windows

...Having access to the source code is probably the single most significant difference between Linux and Windows. The fact that Linux belongs to the GNU Public License ensures that users (of all sorts) can access (and alter) the code to the very kernel that serves as the foundation of the Linux operating system. You want to peer at the Windows code? Good luck. Unless you are a member of a very select (and elite, to many) group, you will never lay eyes on code making up the Windows operating system. You can look at this from both sides of the fence. Some say giving the public access to the code opens the operating system (and the software that runs on top of it) to malicious developers who will take advantage of any weakness they find. Others say that having full access to the code helps bring about faster improvements and bug fixes to keep those malicious developers from being able to bring the system down. I have, on occasion, dipped into the code of one Linux application or another, and when all was said and done, was happy with the results. Could I have done that with a closed-source Windows application? No. #2: Licensing freedom vs. licensing restrictions Along with access comes the difference between the licenses. I’m sure that every IT professional could go on and on about licensing of PC software. But let’s just look at the key aspect of the licenses (without getting into legalese). With a Linux GPL-licensed operating system, you are free to modify that software......

Introduction to Icd-10 Cm/Pcs

...April 14, 2013 Introduction to ICD-10-CM/PCS The World Health Organization (WHO) is the entity that owns and publishes the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) system (The World Health Organization (WHO), 2013). The United States made modifications to this classification system and in 1979 implemented the use of ICD-9-CM. Since that time healthcare worldwide has evolved and the need to collect more detailed information regarding the diseases and conditions that effect world’s population has become a high priority. Due to this evolution, the ICD-9-CM system has become outdated and can no longer accommodate our needs. Effective October 1, 2014 the United States will implement ICD-10-CM/PCS for use across the nation. Initially we will cover ICD-10-CM and then address ICD-10-PCS. ICD-10-CM is the classification system to be utilized to record diagnoses identified and treated in both the acute care setting as well as the ambulatory setting. There are various differences between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM and we will highlight several of those differences today. One difference between the two coding classification systems is the number of chapters. ICD-10-CM consists of twenty-one chapters as compared to the seventeen chapters in ICD-9-CM. There are approximately 68,000 diagnostic codes in ICD-10-CM as opposed to the 14,000 in ICD-9-CM (DeVault, Barta, & Endicott, 2012). The length and structure of the codes in ICD-10-CM vary......

Introduction

...Topic Notes: Windows 8 Introduction Windows 8 in history With the rapid acceptance of small powerful touch-based devices and the rapidly growing market for such devices, Microsoft had to react by developing an operating system capable of competing, while at the same time leveraging the greater part of the existing Windows XP and Windows 7 operating system functionality. Windows 8 story – Windows reimagined On first look, Microsoft seem to have created two operating systems in one, but further examination reveals that they have simply created a new touch supporting interface which gives the user a broader range of services and features. Windows 8 supports the new immersive Windows 8 UI application type and traditional desktop applications – allowing users to work with centralized services and other remote users, and to synchronize data between their desktops and their Windows phone or cloud presence provided by the SkyDrive feature. The classic Start button has been replaced by the new Windows 8 Start screen, while the classic and familiar Windows 7 desktop is retained and continues to support traditional desktop applications. The new Windows 8 Search feature takes the Windows search service to a new level of sophistication and ease of use, and searches can be applied to the system or within the Windows 8 UI application that you are currently working on. Several features of the Windows 8 operating system are designed to operate with remote services and social......

P1 Introduction to Market Research Unit 10

...INTROUDCTION TO MARKET RESEARCH Market research can be referred to as the process of gathering information about a market, product or services or customers. Market research is a specific area of marketing that informs businesses like Kellogg’s about the things consumers need, how best to design products to answer those needs and how to advertise those products to consumers. Market research helps Kellogg’s to plan ahead, for example looking at what products or extensions it should develop and for whom. INTRODUCTION TO THE COMPANY Kellogg Company is a producer of cereal and convenience foods, including cookies, crackers, toaster pastries, cereal bars, fruit-flavored snacks, frozen waffles, and vegetarian foods. The company's brands include the following Corn Flakes, Keebler, Pop-Tarts, Eggo, Cheez-It, Nutri-Grain, Rice Krispies, Bear Naked, Morningstar Farms, Famous Amos, Special K, All-Bran, Frosted Mini-Wheats, Club Crackers and Kashi. Kellogg products are manufactured in 18 countries and marketed in more than 180 countries around the world. TYPE OF RESEARCH I WOULD USE FIRST It is more cost-effective for Kellogg’s to conduct secondary research before they start conducting primary research because it allows them to build an understanding of the market and identify any major barriers before committing to expensive research, it also allows them to develop some assumptions, which means Kellogg’s can use the primary research to test its assumptions. SECONDARY......

Commands (Windows)

...10 Useful Windows Commands You Should Know…. There are some things you can only do from the command line, even on Windows. Some of these tools don’t have graphical equivalents, while others are just plain faster to use than their graphical interfaces. We can’t possibly cover all the useful commands you can use in the Command Prompt or PowerShell here. We’ll be focusing on commands that should be useful even if you’re not a command-line person. ipconfig – Quickly Find Your IP Address You can find your IP address from the Control Panel, but this takes quite a few clicks. The ipconfig command is a fast way of determining your computer’s IP address and other information, such as the address of its default gateway — useful if you want to know the IP address of your router’s web interface. To use the command, just type ipconfig into a Command Prompt window. You’ll see a list of all the network connections your computer is using. Look under Wireless LAN adapter if you’re connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection if you’re connected to a wired network. ipconfig /flushdns – Flush Your DNS Resolver Cache If you change your DNS server, the effects won’t necessarily take place immediately. Windows uses a cache that remembers DNS responses it’s received, saving time when you access the same addresses again in the future. To ensure Windows is getting addresses from the new DNS servers instead of using old, cached entries, run the ipconfig /flushdns command......

...Windows Enabler Overview: Windows Enabler is a program that runs on Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me/NT4.0/2000. It allows the user to enable disabled windows and controls such as buttons and tick boxes and choose menu options that would normally be disabled. This is obviously a very dangerous practice if used recklessly but having said that, you’d be surprised at how often it comes in handy. Windows Enabler has a very simple user interface; it appears as an icon in the system tray and can be turned on and off simply by clicking on it. Windows enabler may be freely distributed as long as the entire package (or a superset) is distributed unaltered. Installing: Windows Enabler is a very simple utility and does not ship with an install program. The installation process is simple; just copy the two files (“Windows Enabler.exe” and “EnablerDLL.dll”) somewhere on your system and run “Windows Enabler.exe” to run the program. I normally place a shortcut to “Windows Enabler.exe” in my “Startup” program group so Windows Enabler is always available! Windows enabler does not make any registry entries or use any data files so uninstalling is accomplished by simply deleting its files (“Windows Enabler.exe” and “EnablerDLL.dll”). Using Windows Enabler: To run Windows Enabler execute the file “Windows Enabler.exe”; the simplest way to do this is to place a shortcut to it somewhere on your system such as the desktop, the start menu or the “Startup” program group.
