Workforce 2020 Executive Report Google is continuously ranked high on the list as the “Best Company to Work For” throughout multiple outlets. It is widely known that Google offers many benefits to their employees in several different ways. As the leader in global technology, Google offers multiple perks to their employees to keep them motivated and producing highly innovative ideas. This tech giant has proven itself to be the gold standard for employers to model. Google is the leading global technology company that focuses on improving the ways people connect with information. Most commonly known for their search engine, Google also has many different services that anyone can use as long as they have an Internet connection. Some of these services include Google Images (online image library), Google news (news feeds), Google Finance (financial news and information), and Froogle (comparison shopping services). The company manages a large inventory of websites and website content that is made freely available through its search engine (Cook, 2012). Google generates 97% of its entire revenue through its advertising, with its two major sources being Google Adwords and Adsense (Cook, 2012). Being the leading search engine in the world and holding a strong market position Google is one of the world’s top ranked brands. Due to the constantly changing advances in the world today companies are required to constantly find new ways and approaches to recruit the best employees for their organization. Not only do they have to find these top talented individuals, they also have to retain the top talent, as well as motivate their employees in order to see maximum output. Google is one of the top companies that are leading the way through these changes, and are adapting their practices in order to have a strong team of individuals that enjoy their job and the company that they work for. Google has structured their leadership in order to provide to their employees the best environment for motivation that includes intrinsic and extrinsic rewards (Martin, 2014). The success of Google and their motivational techniques can be largely attributed to its two founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They did not want to put all of their focus in just revenue and fall into that cookie cutter traditional culture of corporations. With a large focus in avoiding conflict within their workforce such as backstabbing, work place drama, neediness and general discord among employees the two founders wanted to put employees first. “The founders believed that in order to attract the best talent, they had to provide an environment where people would want to come to work, have fun, dream big and get rewarded for hard work” (Cook, 2012). Google believes in providing both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards because they understand that not every individual is motivated by pay incentives alone. Google’s current CEO adopts the “fun is good” principle by providing a unique environment to work around. Some of the benefits and rewards that Google offers are the standard benefits package along with first-class dining facilities, gyms, laundry rooms, massage rooms, haircuts, carwashes, dry cleaning, and commuting buses, most of these at no cost to the employee. The company also has a specific executive role that is devoted to the happiness of the Google employees, called CCO, or Chief Culture Czar. Many talented people work at Google specifically for their unique culture, rewards, and perks (Martin, 2014). Google’s model of motivation is extremely different than the traditional leadership theory, which focuses more on results than on the people who deliver those results. Extrinsic benefits include no-cost health and dental benefits, insurance, 401k plans, vacation packages and tuition reimbursements. Some of the intrinsic motivators include no real hierarchy in the work environment, tiny work groups, and purpose. Google focuses on a flat structure in order to maximize creativity, which allows channels of communication to flow freely instead of only specific groups or departments. For leaders to effectively recognize contributions they have to create a spirit of community and be personally involved (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). Google has a employee recognition program in place because they strongly believe in innovation and rewarding people for amazing innovations. On top of a great motivational program, Google has a strong reputation for creating great work cultures that enable innovative thinking to the fullest. They achieve this through five key team dynamics; psychological safety, dependability, structure and clarity, meaning, and impact (Himelstein, 2016). When these factors are implemented in the work culture successfully employees will be able to define their roles clearly with an understanding of the meaning and impact that their work creates in the organization. Google has identified that a successful employee does not have a specific personality or educational background. “A resume can say a lot of things, but the true test is how they interact and play with others, when they’re not using all their efforts to impress” (Himelstein, 2016). As the leading global technology company, Google needs to constantly be aware of the technological advances in the world that are constantly changing. They have to stay on top of their game at all times in order to constantly adapt to the numerous challenges that they face everyday. The technology industry is constantly growing so Google needs to continue to focus on their employee happiness and create an atmosphere that produces the most innovative ideas and maximum output.
Technology is so important in the world today, especially amongst the new class of worker (born 1980-2000), and it is up to the companies to make structural and behavioral workforce changes to counteract these challenges.

Riordan Manufacturing Executive Report

... This is the situation at Riordan Manufacturing where the price it paid to do business was less than what it made, defining a clear value in what Riordan provides. Riordan’s Sales and Marketing department has a clear value; $50 million is sales to show of it. But how do we show the value for other departments within the organization such as Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) solutions? While the IS and IT costs and what Riordan pays for it are clear from looking at the financials, the value is not. This brings us to the question of what value does Riordan Manufacturing get out of its IS services and IT department. This question is the problem that Riordan Manufacturing has had for many years. Recently, Riordan executive management hired a new Chief Information Officer (CIO) to improve its infrastructure and to answer this question. While management wants to use more IS and IT solutions throughout the organization, it has had trouble finding the perfect fit in all aspects of its operations. Even though IS and IT costs have risen, the puzzle pieces still have not come together; the value and benefit has not been clear to the company. As we will see throughout this review, it is time to focus and find the value that technology and information brings to the organization. It is time to find the efficiencies and savings that the company needs to clearly see the value. With Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), or Supply...

Executive Summary Report

...Executive Summary Report Active Directory stores information about network components. It allows clients to find objects within its namespace. The term namespace (also known as console tree) refers to the area in which a network component can be located. For example, the table of contents of this book forms a namespace in which chapters can be resolved to page numbers. DNS is a namespace that resolves host names to IP addresses. Telephone books provide a namespace for resolving names to telephone numbers. Active Directory provides a namespace for resolving the names of network objects to the objects themselves. Active Directory can resolve a wide range of objects, including users, systems, and services on a network. Each object in an Active Directory has a name. These are not the names that you are accustomed to, like "Tony" or "Eric." They are LDAP distinguished names. LDAP distinguished names are complicated, but they allow any object within a directory to be identified uniquely regardless of its type. The local users on the client’s computer will not be affected during domain join. They can still logon on the local machine. Meanwhile, on domain controllers, during the Active Directory Installation, local accounts in the registry-based SAM database are migrated to Active Directory; the existing SAM is deleted; and a new, smaller registry-based SAM is created that is used for starting the domain controller in Directory Services Restore Mode for system repair. Nursing 2020

...Nursing 2020 John Doe University of Phoenix Professional Dynamics JMS-007V Jane Doe October 12, 2011 Nursing 2020 The growing demands of our society today with respect to our aging population, diverse ethnic backgrounds, health reforms, discovery of new medications and diseases, and development of new medical technologies serves as a clear warning for the nursing profession that something needs to be done to keep up with the pace. “With more than 3 million members, the nursing profession is the largest segment of the nation’s health care workforce” ("Report," 2010). The message of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in regards to the future of nursing clearly states that changes should be made in its field in order to meet these emerging demands. As stated in the IOM report on The Future of Nursing: “A number of barriers prevent nurses from being able to respond effectively to rapidly changing health care setting and an evolving health care system. These barriers need to be overcome to ensure that nurses are well-positioned to lead change and advance health” ("Report," 2010). Because of this, focus in the changes in education, nursing practice, nursing role, and leadership are the key requirements for nurses today. If changes are not started at this time, then the future of quality and safe nursing care is at risk. Knowledge is power, and quality education is needed to acquire knowledge. “A more educated nursing workforce would be better equipped to meet the......

Executive Responsibility for ‘Going Concern’ Disclosures Increases - the Cfo Report

...10/4/2014 Executive Responsibility For ‘Going Concern’ Disclosures Increases - The CFO Report - WSJ August 27, 2014, 5:58 PM ET Executive Responsibility For ‘Going Concern’ Disclosures Increases Corporate managers will have to make more uniform disclosures when there is substantial doubt about their business’ ability to survive, the Financial Accounting Standards Board said Wednesday. The FASB updated U.S. accounting rules, effective by the end of 2016, to define management’s responsibility to evaluate whether their business will be able to continue operating as a “going concern,” and make relevant disclosures in financial statement footnotes. Previously, there were no specific rules under U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and disclosures were largely up to auditors. Corporate executives had the option to make any voluntary disclosures they felt relevant. Investors, however, have grown frustrated with a lack of going concern opinions during the financial crisis that failed to warn them of impending bankruptcies. The FASB first issued a proposal at the peak of the financial crisis in 2008, but debate and revisions delayed the final standard, which didn’t go up for a vote until May. http://blogs.wsj.com/cfo/2014/08/27/executive-responsibility-for-going-concern-disclosures-increases/tab/print/ 1/2 10/4/2014 Executive Responsibility For ‘Going Concern’ Disclosures Increases - The CFO Report - WSJ Supporters of the changes have......

2020

...Entertainment in 2020 The world as we know it today is not the same as it was ten years ago, let alone five years ago. Technology is advancing at a drastic speed therefore causing everything attached to it to change; economy, demography, etc. The industry that we have chosen to focus on is the entertainment industry, with regards to the evolution of technology. We will be analyzing the different changes in the past decade and try to predict what the workforce will look like in 2020. The Generations X, Y and Z are the population born after the World War II era. By the year 2020, most of the population in these three categories will still be in the workforce, with only the ones born at the very beginning of “Generation X” entering retirement. Born between the early years of the 1960’s to early 80’s, Generation X witnessed the expansion of technology, with such things as the personal computer, video games, cable TV, Internet etc.. They are generally considered as very independent and self-sufficient because many of them were born in an era where their families earned two incomes and where divorce rates were rising. This generation was born into a faltering economy therefore witnessed the struggle their parents went through to maintain their jobs, they tend to ignore their leaders and are less committed to one employer because of that. According to the US Census Bureau in their 2009 statistical abstract and also the 2001 Canadian census on education statistics, Generation...

...shortage: 3 Age barriers: 4 Managing an aging workforce: 5 Fair employment practices and recruitment policies: 5 Training, development and job’s design: 6 Flexible working practices and outsourcing 7 Changing attitudes within organizations 7 Conclusion: 9 Word count:2,087 words Introduction: Managing the Aging Workforce today is one of the important topics for the world’s organizations. The increasing average life expectancy of populations does not only affect economic, social systems of countries and communities, but also has a strong impact onthe business activities of enterprises. The demographic changes rapidly will not only hitcountries such as United State, the Western European countries, Australia, or Japan, but also the upcoming countries as China, Singapore or Hong Kong. There are more than two million Australians aged 65 and over, and the number will double in the next 40 years. In Hong Kong, 11 percent of the population is 65 or older and this will increase to 25 percent in less than 30 years. Japan, with 20 percent of its population aged 65 years or over, has become the world’s most aged society, and this, combined with its extremely low birth rate means its population is projected to shrink by 20 percent over the next 50 years. Europe too faces similar demographic problems. By 2020 more than one in three adults will be at least 60 years old. (Raymond, 2010). How do organizations anticipate their workforces and even jurisdictions may change due......

...industries such as financial services, so the contribution of the workforce to organization success is perhaps the most important lever to competitive advantage. In fact, the challenge of containing costs while developing a high performing workforce is a primary challenge facing most companies today. But, do organizations know enough about their workforce to optimize the workforce lever? We all know the US workforce is aging, with the number of people 55 and older holding jobs hitting a record 28 million in 2010. At the same time, the portion of people ages 16-24 in the labor market was at the lowest level since the government began tracking in 1948, falling from 66% in 2000 to 55%, just 17 million of the overall employment base1. Leaving aside the obvious issue of where we get replacement workers for the retiring workforce, these two employee cohorts are quite different. The ways organizations will hire and retain these workers going forward must be different as well. Retaining older workers requires retention programs that include part-time or project-based work. Hiring Gen-Xers and Gen-Yers requires new approaches and retention programs that must provide them with career development and choices about where, when and even how long to work each day. The older cohort is not yet as enamored with emerging social technologies that are becoming the primary means of communication and collaboration for the younger workforce. The older cohort has a wealth of priceless......
