CheckPoint: Technology Trendy Communication

The face of business communications is changing very quickly with new technology. The question of using the new technology effectively weighs heavier on the side of not being able to. New devices and new methods of communication being produced at such a fast pace, businesses have a hard time keeping up. Training and retraining employees across the board, not only takes up time, but also takes enormous amounts of capital investment. (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). The older employees may also become less productive when having to retrain on new systems continually.

Changing technology too quickly can be detrimental to other areas of business, such as customer service. For example, the customers’ needs being set aside while employees are training is not good for business. When customers call with questions, they like to hear the voice of confidence, but instead get the voice of frustration of new equipment or software an agent is still trying to master. There seems to be a larger number of big companies that have been able to keep up with the new trends, but usually not without consequence somewhere along the line. Accidental security breaches being high on the list of technology problems these companies face. Another problem being information overload. Too much information to manage can be overwhelming for employees (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). Over loading employees make it harder to maintain or increase productivity levels.

...“marginal” means “extra,” “additional,” or “a change in.” Most choices or decisions involve changes in the status quo, meaning the existing state of affairs. For instance, should you attend school for another year? Should you study an extra hour for an exam? Should you supersize your fries? Similarly, should a business expand or reduce its output? Should government increase or decrease its funding for a missile defense system (Brue & McConnell, 2010)? Each option involves marginal benefits and, be- cause of scarce resources, marginal costs. In making choices rationally, the decision maker must compare those two amounts. Example: You and your fiancée are shopping for an engagement ring. Should you buy a 1/2-carat diamond, a 5/8-carat diamond, a 3/4-carat diamond, a 1-carat diamond, or something even larger? The marginal cost of a larger-size diamond is the added expense beyond the cost of the smaller-size diamond. The marginal benefit is the perceived greater lifetime pleasure (utility) from the larger-size stone. If the marginal benefit of the larger diamond exceeds its marginal cost (and you can afford it), buy the larger stone. But if the marginal cost is more than the marginal benefit, buy the smaller diamond instead, even if you can afford the larger stone (Brue & McConnell, 2010)! I myself have been making decisions in which I have weighed marginal cost and marginal benefits during the holiday season. For example, for Christmas I was buying my daughter a......

...10/06/2013 Psy 202 Instr. Weniger WK 1 Assignment Profound Life Events This week’s assignment asks to list five profound events in my life. The first that comes to mind is the birth of my son, Michael. He is now 27 years old and in the US Air Force. He was born on 5/13/1986. My own birthday is 05/15/1964, I always thought this was a nice coincidence. When he was conceived, my wife and I were still young and struggling. We were married about 2 years. We lived in Virginia Beach. In addition, we had just bought our first condo. Things were tight but good. I was just out of the Army and she was finishing her first enlistment in the Navy. We had been together about 5 year’s altogether. One of the surprises this brought was the pregnancy itself. My wife had some reproductive issues and pregnancy was unlikely. My feelings immediately were apprehensive. I was not sure I was ready to be a father. My own father was absent a lot due to his job. My father was a great man even though he had to be away. He taught me, or better sowed me about responsibility. I was not sure I could do the same. All the factors we used in making our decision seemed, at least to me that we should wait. My wife was not on board with termination. This created some stress in the very beginning and is something I have come to regret. As things progressed I calmed and really looked forward to that big day. We really get into the preparations are getting excited. I have to be honest, I was not sure I...

...Technological Communication XCOM/285 9/6/14 Technological Communication Within the article entitled Superhero in the Cubicle the technological advancements, it is speaking of is that which is done via the web. Using the web as a conduit, companies are setting up web based programs to network the company’s employees. One way companies are setting up using record keeping, blogging, and bookmarking. This way it becomes easier to centralize communication and components such as e-mail, voicemail, instant messaging, and chatting are easily accessible and the employees all know where to go to check communication. Furthermore, using this network of communication helps store necessary data that may be translated and compiled to yield useful information. Another form of communication which is discussed in the article is what is known as social computing. Social computing includes blogging and other forms which employees may network and communicate information. This in return lowers cost and rids a company of the involvement of IT. After viewing and analyzing the forms of communication which have been discussed both would show to be a very helpful form of communication for my job. In comparison to each other record keeping is more strictly for data while social computing allows the employees to freely write information that may be shared and expounded upon by other employees as well. For my place of employment web based forms of communication are used,......

Xcom/285 - Essentials of Managerial Communication

...XCOM/285 - Essentials of Managerial Communication Checkpoint: Technology–Trendy Communication Technology is changing the face of business communications everywhere by the different types of information technology available. Businesses effectively using the resources to communicate would be benefiting from the options of the Internet and satellites. Between the two the connections a business can communicate and perform transactions from anywhere to anywhere. The old fashion businesses are using technology too by means of telephones and fax machines. However, as the technology improves newer high-tech items are available to make the business transactions and conversations more effortless as time goes on. Cell phones or the newer smart phones, PDA’s, laptops, IPad’s, Notebooks, etc. are the items a business men or women use to make the transactions, planning or scheduling, and conversations possible. The Internet itself has improved as the technology to access it has. For the businesses who are keeping up with the newer, more expensive, technology they are using the resources to communicate effectively. The companies that are not as up to speed with technology tend to lose customers for that exact reason. For example websites are becoming more popular for putting companies out there. The requirement is keeping up with the customer’s wants and needs. If a customer wants to shop on the Internet for anything the businesses that are more appealing will receive the customer’s......

Xcom/285 Privacy Policies and Laws

...Privacy Policies and Laws Debate XCOM/285 Essentials of Managerial Communication When thinking about privacy laws and policies, it is safe to clearly state that I am for them. Many people feel that some employers go over board when it comes to this kind of thing but in this age of technology, having privacy polices is not only right it is essential to maintain the respect of the people who work for and with people. There is much evidence that even with privacy policies in place the some employees still use company communications for personal use. There is no clearer evidence of this than that fact the government had to pass laws of privacy laws to protect companies that felt they needed to watch their employee’s use of their communications for any personal use of company communications. These laws were passed so angry employees who were caught using company communications for private things could not go back and sue companies for invasion of their privacy. The ironic part of employees getting upset over what they perceive as an invasion of their privacy is the fact most companies make employees sign privacy agreement policies and then get angry when they get caught breaking them. Privacy policies are not just to protect employers from employees using their communications for private business, but privacy policies are needed to protect companies from viruses that can come in through private emails or...

...Tuition Reimbursement Implementation Report Ronald Ahrens XCOM/285 Essentials of Managerial Communication University of Phoenix The following report was helping us explore why we should expanding employee benefits with in this he company. We had a good year but without a good year it would benefit the company so adding tuition reimbursement as an employee benefit would be great. It would help the employees working on their degree in business or communication as they are working for us so this can be a positive in more than one way showing we care about their interest expand their career by going back to school. The company is in the perfect position to proceed with the education reimbursement employee benefit due to the fact that the company has already approved a budget inclusive of this additional employee benefit costs by paying 100 percent for a A 70 percent for a B and a 50 percent for a C. Expanding the benefits to include tuition reimbursement will increase the way we retain people because they will stay with a company that helps with their school I did when I went to college because the company paid for it so it help make the choice. Xcom/285 Reflection

...XCOM/285 Capstone Reflection June 22, 2012 As I sit here and think about what I have learned from this class over the last 9 weeks there are a few things that come to mind. I had a great experience in this class and it has taught me a few things that I never really understood. The main thing I have learned is that communication is the key to any successful business. It is more than just sending out an e-mail or perhaps in today’s society a text message. You have to learn to speak properly and learn how to address people in the right way. This will allow for you to avoid a lot of issues such as lawsuits and even a job loss as well. When communicating in business you need to understand how to address the audience and command the room at the same time. It is important to understand the objective and how to relay the information in the proper way. The cross cultural communication matrix was a pretty fun and interesting assignment at the same time. It was interesting to see how the different parts of the world values communication. Being able to understand how or why a certain country does something gave me a new sense of respect. In today’s society we think people are rude if they are not like us in any way. Just because someone does not shake your hand or even address you in the same manner doesn’t mean they are a bad person. Every country has a different way of communicating with one another and we need to remain impartial to this. All in all I must say this was a very......

...| 2012 | | XCOM/285 Axia College [Type the author name] | [Business writing Portfolio] | | Reflection What I have learned from business writing and writing techniques can help my in all of my future business endeavors. I have learned when I need to sound more businesslike and when it is appropriate to write more friendly. When writing different documents such as emails, memos, and letters there are different ways to write. When I am writing for school I need to write more academically. The reason is because you are going to school and academics are the way to write. Using bigger words and sounding more formal will help with this. This can help when writing business letters as well. When writing business letters you need to sound more professional because you are sending out a letter. In an email you can be more relaxed because emails are short and to the point and you do not want to take up much of the persons time that is receiving the email. When writing a memo you want to sound professional and get to the point because the memo will be around for awhile. If you are writing business information depending on who is receiving that information you need to decide how professional you need to sound and how the information needs to be. What I have learned from this class will help ensure that I know how to write what I need to and get my point across to whomever I am writing to.
